981 Key Fob - Rebuild and Code

One of the key fobs for my 981 Cayman stopped working (not due to a battery) I believe due to moisture. I have a friend with extensive PCB experience. If he analyzes it and replaces a component or solder would this necessitate a reprogram or will the fob "retain it's memory"? Thanks Susan
