Excess travel on brake pedal?

Hi everyone

Just got my first Boxter (2002 2.7). Everything looks good apart from a long travel (between 3 and 5 inches) on the brake pedal before the brakes engage. It's quite disconcerting and unlike any other car I've driven recently, mostly BMWs. Dealer says this is quite normal for Porsches. Is he right? I'd be grateful for any help with this.

Thanks in advance

My Boxster's brakes don't do this. The dealer (I'm guessing not a Porsche dealer) is telling you a tall tale. Something isn't right with your Boxster's brakes.

Something very wrong with your brakes. Boxster brakes are some of the best on the planet! I'd start by having the fluid changed out and brakes bled. Do the brakes pull to one side when you brake?

Agreed, Boxster brakes are very good. Sounds like air in the line, brake should be nice and hard and start braking right away and not 3-5 inches of travel.

Excess travel on Brake

Frank,

Like any other Car, Have the Brake Pads and Rotors inspected.Replace if needed. Bleed the System and replace with fresh Brake fluid..Nothing complicated.
I would run away from that dealership quick, and tell the Service Manager that his technician does not know a thing !

Good Luck
