Getting Pop-pop-popular!

Seems like the old times of days between posts are behind us - just checked in today after 3 days away and was swamped with posts! So much stuff to read, I can't sneak it in during a 5 minute slot in my workday anymore... this is cool! Welcome to the new members and thanks for the knowledge sharing by all...

jfmillr 01-11-2004 08:02 AM

the days come and go. I have been using this board for a little while and sometimes it has a heartbeat and other times its dead. Bottom line is we would all rather be out driving our cars then sitting here typing all the time :)

ehljags 01-17-2004 03:57 PM

It is a shame we can not drive and post (safely) at the same time!!!!

jfmillr 01-17-2004 04:56 PM

True. :)

Why was the domain name changed to what it is now from boxsterforum.com?

mjbliemel 01-21-2004 03:00 AM

The site's name was changed a long time ago, from what I know about it, due to a knock on the door from Porsche legal. We also had to remove the Boxster script and Porsche badge we had up at the time. Kinda lame, but you know how that legal BS goes.

Adam 01-21-2004 10:43 AM

How come porsche petes can use the name and the badge then? Did they make a deal with the devil?

mjbliemel 01-24-2004 04:44 PM

The PPBB badge is a modified version as you know. I find it pretty ugly myself.

Why they can use Porsche in the name, well I don't know.

JT 02-01-2004 09:42 PM

Yeap. But I still own the name Boxsterforum :) and one day will do something about it.

porsche986 02-15-2004 05:19 PM

nice one

Stryke 02-15-2004 05:32 PM

They don't own the name "Boxster" but you cannot have the word in the site name if the content of the site is Porsche related.

porsche986 02-15-2004 05:37 PM

oh i see. :)

Another S in S 02-22-2004 08:19 PM

Probably because more people are getting either banned or fed up with PPBB's cliquey atmosphere (why are some peoples' thread deleted where other peoples' thread on the same subject are left alone?).

JT 02-22-2004 09:42 PM

I think that when people visit this site they realize its the best porsche boxster site on te net :)

Tool Pants 02-23-2004 12:32 AM

Porsche does own the Boxster name. Back in 1998 they went after about 30 sites using the name - my friend had myboxster.com in 1998 and changed it. The UK board that started about 2 years was Boxster.net and now it is Boxa.net. But Porsche can do nothing about 986.

They do this, so they say, or it can become a generic term like xerox - a name IBM can no longer protect.

Alienz 02-23-2004 05:30 PM

Generic name...good or bad? I still buy Kleenex.

Stryke 02-23-2004 06:19 PM

Scotch tape, scotch brite, post-it's, zip lock bags, band aid, etc. All are actually name brands but we call them that regardless of the brand. ;)

Alienz 02-23-2004 06:53 PM

let's make a list while we're at it... :)

JT 02-23-2004 07:17 PM

Hey guys I also own WWW.CARRERAFORUM.COM but they cant touch that name. It has meanings other than a car :D

That is why IBM lost the name xerox many years ago.

porsche986 02-24-2004 02:13 AM

toolpants i contacted porsche before i bought my domain name , i own around 30 domain names and my porsche domain name clearly says porsche boxster and infact the last owner of the domain was porsche and they didnt stop me from running it, they only get pissed if a forum is ran, as some people do slag porsche off in forums. The internet forums is really a legal minefield. This is one of the reasons why i stopped my last forum located at my website. It was very populaur and had hundreds of members, i think people thought it was porsches forum. Anyways i only use my boxster sites for resourse and sales. They are getting updated and will be made available soon. If JT requires a link back to this forum this can be done as my website get large hits daily. Its already listed in google top 10 as it used to belong to porsche

This is an old thread, but I want to pipe in here. PPBB reminds me of a teen-age chat line. If you want to chat about HDTV or wanna-be Cayman owners then go there.

If you want pure Boxster info, then go here, this is a great place to chat with other Boxster owners with no attitudes. Period!!! :D

I commend the owners of this forum for this clean place to chat about Boxsters!!!

In my early Boxster days I went THERE, and got alot of LOL crap???

Regards

Uhhhh... Xerox is an independent company and was never owned by IBM.
