Changing the look

Well,

Since the site is dead, I thought I would take this opprtunity and try to change the look and feel.

Also, since the site is dead, I would like to have an image of a Boxster surrounded by tumble weed :) If you can do this with a graphics program feel free to do so :)

New look

Looks too busy in my opinion. I can't say that I like it very much like this. I realize this is just your dev environment, so it may change with some input from forum members.

Anyway, my 2 cents -- the way it was looked nicer and had less clutter.

Anyone else (I know you are lurking!) have any input?

Better

OK, things are better now. But, not all that different from what you had before. Other than changing the header graphic, it is not that much different that I can see. Needs some kind of graphic though with a Boxster in it.

Tumbling along with the tumbling tumbleweed

I will see what I can do in the way of tumbleweed Jorge.

I like it, and I think it's great you put so much work into it!

JT 01-15-2003 01:16 PM

Not all together there yet. I screwed sometyhing up and have the default forum going. I will modify it shortly. But, better like this than none for now.

Give me time. I have been working on www.hometheaterdiscussion.com and thats the look I wanted here. however, our defacto graphics artist does not like it :( So, lets see what the outcome is .....

ehljags 01-22-2003 03:22 PM

OK guys,

I have been traveling a bit for the past month and have just got home --

what is this "dead ****************?" Come on, lets get with it! This is a great site and has good information, along with some great people!

I think the "new look" is good and easy to use. I am not really into "looks" of web-stuff, but am into the utility and information/knowledge factor.

jorge, Please keep it up, your dedication and energy is greatly appreciated by this p-car person.

thanks for the support.

Dont worry about the site. Its not going anywhere. Its on a server that I run another site at and its not costing me anything to keeo it going. All that said, I the site will look normal again this weekend when I 'm done. I can makle it look like www.hometheaterdiscussion.com but I have been told by a user here that he prefers this look.

So, the jury is still out.

Look and feel

Your HTD forum site looks fine, that would work here too. Although I can't say I like the yellowish tone of it over there at HTD forum. Should be something more neutral, like a light greyish look. Needs some kind of Boxster grapic of course too or else it just would really suck.

I have been super busy lately, no time to work on any graphics yet. I am going to try and incorporate some tumbleweed into a graphic with a Boxster. Maybe this weeend.

If you are going to keep this general look and feel here, the purple (main center area) and blue (left navigation area) really clash, they should at least be one or the other. Personally, I can't stand purple.

Tumbleweed

OK, so how does this work for you Jorge? You wanted some tumbleweed.

You can find this in my Public filesharing folder at http://homepage.mac.com/bliemel/FileSharing.html where you can download the image. Look for the one that starts with 986logo....

EDIT: Couldn't attach the image for some reason. I will email it to you.

I love it !

I will have it up with the revamped site really soon :)

Thanks for the contribution.

ehljags 01-24-2003 03:25 PM

Looks very good! Your computer guys continue to amaze me! PLEASE, keep up the stuff for us non-computer guys!

mjbliemel 01-24-2003 07:35 PM

Cool Jorge!

Look forward to seeing the new logo and the revamped site up soon.

Newest New Look

I like the look with the tumbleweed blown away and a nice AS Boxster on display. Keep up the good work.

mjbliemel 02-26-2003 06:13 PM

How about this Jorge?

OK, had a bit ot time to play with it. How about this for the forum graphic?

ehljags 02-27-2003 02:53 AM

Not bad, actually, I like it a lot. Perhaps a bit more contrast in the text? Is this a car from a Porsche ad, or an actual car?

mjbliemel 02-27-2003 05:45 AM

Forum graphic

I think this looks better with the text extended out over the image. Final call is up to Jorge of course.

That is an actual car, not from any Porsche site to avoid legal problems with the legal folks at Porsche.

So whaddya think folks?

Possible Site Logos

Given the idea to do rotating/randomly selected photos (like ehljags current pic) why not just go to some stylized text-based logo for the site? I've attached a few just to provide ideas of what I mean...

mjbliemel 02-27-2003 06:46 PM

No offense, but....

No offense, but I don't like those at all. They are too flat and lifeless IMO. Of course this is all up to Jorge in the end. I also don't think we want to go changing things too often. I'd like to see us stick with one forum graphic for a few months at least before we change it again. Just my 2 cents.

If we want just a text logo, we could definitely come up with something better than those using Photoshop that has some depth and dimension.

Somehow, I just think having a Boxster image as part of the forum graphic just makes it look like it belongs.

donv 02-27-2003 09:14 PM

No offense taken - I don't have a copy of photoshop, so these were created with some open source tools. They're just ideas - that can be used if desired or improved upon, by those with the tools. Depth, texture: great idea - add it if you've got the power!

On another front, I tried teaching myself how to do some animated gifs and here are the results. Same offer - improve if desired... discard if unwanted, etc.
