Lime Rock Vintage Racing (Labor Day Weekend)

I'm trying to figure out the best day for us to go, but I can't determine the schedule based on the Lime Rock website. Concours would be great, but I think the real reason to go is to hear and see and smell these great cars doing what they were designed for--racing!

Does anyone know when the best racing day is?

Here is the description:

This Labor Day weekend, that inseparable connection between the tradition of sports car racing and the men and machines that made it happen will be celebrated at the 20th anniversary of the Lime Rock Park Vintage Festival on Aug. 30-Sept. 2.

This special edition of the Vintage Festival also will mark the beginning of a partnership with Steve Earle, the president of General Racing Ltd. and founder of the world renowned Monterey Historic Automobile Races.

Earle is widely considered one of the founding fathers of vintage racing in the United States. Now in its 29th year, the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races presented by Chrysler is a cornerstone of vintage racing worldwide and annually attracts an audience of more that 50,000.

The Lime Rock Park Vintage Festival is one of the largest vintage automobile celebrations in the East, showcasing a diverse field of race cars on Friday, Saturday and Monday, that can span eight decades, from timeless pre-war classics to the roar of historic Trans-Am machines and exotic prototypes from the 1980s.

Lined up along Lime Rock's 2,400-foot main straightaway on Sunday, Sept. 1, can be found classics, new and old, featured in the Concours in the Park Vintage & Historic Car Show. Sunday's activities also include the popular Show of Shelbys and a collector car auction of investment grade cars. A weekend-long eclectic swap meet of automotive memorabilia completes the offering and brings to the car enthusiast an unmatched level of diversity.

The Concours in the Park attracts some of the finest foreign and domestic automobiles in the country from well known manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa-Romeo, Jaguar and MG to the harder to find makes such as Siata, Allard, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Delahaye, Delage, Citroen and DeTomaso.

The Show of Shelbys contains virtually every year and model car Carroll Shelby produced between 1962 and 1970. The Vintage Festival Swap Meet, which runs throughout the weekend, is a showcase for automotive memorabilia where fans may find anything from out-of-print shop manuals, or old racing magazines and programs to die-cast models or used cars.

It's the tradition that honors the tradition of racing - the Lime Rock Park Vintage Festival Aug. 31-Sept. 3.

No interest so far?

I'm kind of surprised I haven't heard from anyone about this. I'm still planning to go, so let me know if you'd like to join me for the ride down, back, or meet while there...

Could be interested

Our schedule is very uncertain for that weekend though. I very likely will have my parents visiting during that time. This could be a nice diversion for us. My dad is a car nut. This will be very tentitive for and I'll let you know Charles if we plan to go so perhaps we can hook up for a trip out to LRP.

I would be interested in going Monday, which probably has the best racing. I understand the late sixties/early seventies TRANS-AM cars will be featured. Those of us of a...um...certian age remember some really exciting racing in the TRANS-AM series.

Downside of Monday i straffic on the way home, but you can't have everything.

I called today and was told the races are on Monday. Sunday is the concours as the track can't race on Sunday due to noise restrictions.

Unfortunately it looks like Sara and I won't be able to make it after all. I hope at least a couple of you guys meet up and enjoy the day. It would be great to see some pictures of the racing.

Next up on our agenda is a Cape Cod BBQ in mid-September, then a VT foliage run in early October. Hopefully I'll have some details by the end of the week.
