Fall Run

any plans for a Fall run?...i participated in last years run and it was a lot of fun!

ReyF 08-11-2004 05:19 AM

100% Absolutely!

It's been a very quite Summer around here. We've had a lot on our plate this Summer and I regret not rallying the troops. Things should get back to normal here in a couple of weeks and I'd like to get a drive together (before the Fall).

I'm sure we'll do the Equinox drive again this year (assuming they'll let us back on the mountain).

Last year a few of us did a local drive (4-5 cars) and we had a blast. Just a couple of hours of driving and some ice cream to cool off. Perhaps something like this could jumpstart the gang again.

New member here, my first post, am located in MA as well, where are these runs that are being organized, how many usually go??

Are there a lot of MA boxsters here???

Subanez 08-11-2004 09:48 AM

Fall run...count me in! As long as we can avoid the streams of foliage-seeking tourists...

I'd be interested in a drive too if you let a 996TT come along:rolleyes:

Kevin, you woulda loved the Hawk's Nest drive. After 80 miles of nose to tail canyon roads, we hit the interstate for 15 miles at ridiculous speeds. Not to kiss and tell, but a couple of cars in the aggressive group reportedly went faster than my S will go.

A little too manic for my blood on the interstate - but it was fun to see how those TTs couldn't get away on the really twisty parts. Lots of third and 4th gear cornering. Even after several 15 second leads we just kept getting bunched up- probably all those civilians out for a Sunday drive.

Sorry Kevin - I was thinking Kevin the Slow in NYC. A sunday drive starting in NJ is a bit of a hike for you. - I'll be glad to join in if I can make it - East of Springfield is tough for me.

In the past years we usually do 4-6 organized drives/year. They take place all over NE. Always a one-day event that includes lots of twisty scenic miles and lunch/breaks along the way. Generally we have between 10-20 cars. Yes we have a lot of local (and not so local) people participate. Look back at some of the previous pages for pictures and details of some previous drives.

This year has been very quite though with just a couple of gatherings.

The Fall Equinox run always has a great turnout since we run the Mt. Equinox road (closed toll road). Problem is we go peak color season and we have to contend with leaf peepers on the mountain. If we hit Mt. Equinox again I think we'll have to take it a little easier than in past years. There's plenty of great roads to and from Equinox though......

thanks rey....

sounds great, def interested ......
where in MA are you?

Last year's Fall Foliage was a gentle cruise with sedate drives through town. I'm sure this was due more to the crowds than lack of driver enthusiasm.

I would enjoy a 'back-to-school' Mt Equinox run. On a nice day I can picture a similar route as last year with most of the summer tourists back to school and away from the highways.

Anyone know when road repair season closes?

Subanez 08-13-2004 04:18 AM

Road repair season...I think they try to make it last as long as possible, at least until the first real threat of snow. But I think most of the heavy work will be done by mid to late september, as frost on a construction site isn't much fun.

I'm gonna go ahead and suggest we do this run the third or fourth weekend in September.

I'd be up for a drive soon.

How about a caravan to see the 997 reveal this Saturday (8/28)?. i have gotten invites from Clair and Inskip. Inskip would give us some more drive time, but still be close by.

ReyF 08-25-2004 06:05 AM

No sure Brian. We may be booked Sat. Sounds like fun and the weather is supposed to be very nice.

Let me check.

I'll be at Inskip's 997 presentation in the morning, but will be coming from the Cape Cod area, so no caravan for me. See you there!

What's up for a real drive before the leaves start falling?

Is fall run still planned for weekend of October 10 or 11? Came last year and had a blast, though had to leave early for a Red Sox game! Either date works for me!

Absolutely.

I'm going to start the planning this weekend and start to get the word out.

Everyone please take a look on the previous page for the details from last years run. I will probably use this as a framework for the drive. I would love to get some input from everyone. Anything you'd like to have added/removed/changed etc.

It looks like the peak season might be a little early this year. We already have some of the early trees starting to change already!!

AT one time New Hampshire was mentioned which would be great. I am up for any selection ready to go like the Tomcat fighter plane anytime anywhere.
