Repairing disintegrating insulation on front turn signal bulb harness

While installing new LED front turn signal bulbs, the insulation on the wiring disintegrated like dust! Rather than buy new bulb holders, splicing wires, etc, I opened the connector, coated the bare wires with silicone dielectric grease and slid thin shrink tubing over the wires and heated it. Nice fit. I didn’t want to remove the metal connector pins so getting the shrink wrap over the connector pin was super tight. Once the shrink tube was halfway down the wire, it was so snug that the wire was bending as I was trying to push it into the tube. I wound up having to stop, shrink that tubing, and using the extra stiffness that shrink tube added to the bare wire, I slid another section of shrink tube over the already shrunk tube to complete the job (hope that makes sense). Totally cost was $3 for the long/thin shrink tube from harbor freight. I was going to post pics from my iphone, but this app won’t allow it.
