Salvaging Under Hood Option Label

The fender bender I was involved in on Monday means I'll be getting a new front hood on my 2003 S. Has anyone ever salvaged their option sticker from their old hood and installed it on their new hood? I tried searching and came up with a guy on Rennlist who made some new stickers for people, and I sent him a PM to see if he is still doing it. While it's by no means the end of the world if the sticker is lost, if there is a way to save it, I would be interested in attempting it.

You could try peeling it off, but I am not sure you could get it off without ripping it. You could also try a razor blade, since you probably don't care about damaging the paint. If you took off some paint with it, it might hold together better. Of course, you could just cut that section of the hood off?

If it was me, I would take a high-res picture, and print it on sticker paper. If you take the photo straight, and not at an angle, in good light, you could probably print one that looks 70-80% as good as new.

Point an electric hair dryer at the label to soften up the adhesive underneath. Use a razor blade to carefully lift up one of the corners, then gradually lift off the label intact, using the hair dryer all the while.

Take your time, it should come off. After removing the label, place it on some wax paper until you're ready to re-install.

Always worked for me on other labels..........just sayin'...........

I would snap a photo of it and then print it on premium adhesive backed paper which they sell at Staples. Cut to exact size and roundness and then place on new hood. It should carry forward that factory vintage type. Use a quality camera and then de-noise the image before you print it.

I use my iPhone for all kinds of things I need to either remember or duplicate!

Let me regale you with a story...

So in December 2015, a teen in an SUV backs into me at a stoplight. Hood is replaced, and a new vehicle data carrier (aka label) was ordered from Porsche (paid by insurance). The dealer contacted me late-March 2016 to verify ownership info.

As of today I still don't have it. The regional Porsche reps have been involved, the process has re-started a few times... would've been quicker getting one from design911.com by now. But hey, they're paying for a genuine item so I can wait for now.

Well I'm going to try the picture printed on label stock. I looked at design911.com, all I found was catalyst or non-catalyst equipped stickers. I don't think having an official Porsche replacement label is that critical for me!

I hope you get your new vehicle data carrier from Porsche soon!

Update

A google search on this led me to this thread over on Rennlist.com.

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/572737-option-code-sticker-replacement.html

A PM to juankimalo on that thread and for cheap money I will have 4 reproduction stickers mailed to me, so I will be good for 3 more replacement hoods! I'll let you know how they look when I get them.

Here's a picture of the new sticker next to the old one. Looks very good to me, well worth the price.
