Painting Brake Caliper

4 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

I just finished painting my calipers yellow, and wanted to share some pictures and experience. I'm not writing a DIY guide because there are many great ones out there, Pedro's Garage for example.

I used VHT Caliper paint, and one can for all four. I wished I had put more paint on them, because now the paint feels a little thin. I dropped the wheel on one caliper and scratched the paint right off, even with the clear coat on.

Also, I wish I had found a better way to hang these so the paint could get to all surfaces evenly.

Another mistake that I made was when I assemble the bleeder valves back on the calipers, I didn't tighten them enough. Then decided it was late, and I would continue tomorrow. The next morning I found brake fluid all over the floor and my calipers from slowly draining out of those loose bleeder valves.

I'll see how long the paint lasts. If it goes bad, I'll redo these with more paint and better surface prep.

They look great! Like you said, if the paint doesn't last, well, it's a learning experience;) I did mine about 2 years ago with one can of VHT and they still look great!

Did you bake them at 200 °F for 1 hour like the instructions say?

No, I painted them without removing them from the car.
