I don't think you'll feel a difference with reflective tape on the boxster, but for the price... you might try!
I put some on the first version of the plenum. I feel that the 986 is really sensitive to outside air temp, I can feel a difference between morning power and noon power, even though it's only 10/15°F difference. I think it has more to do with the ECU settings that advance timing when it gets hot than the actual difference in air density... I got a new phone so I'll be able to do datalogging easily now. I'll try to collect the right info, see what's really going on! |
Soooo this week end I had a ton of things to do... so I decided to do something else!
I received the 996 plenum, so I made my version for the GT3 Throttle body, fairly easy since it's a straight T! http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2017/...2311265478.jpg http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2017/...3109752683.jpg Due to its symmetrical shape, I made radial stiffening ribs (like the OEM cross over pipe)... And I really liked it! So I tried on the 986 plenum... due to the non-symmetrical shape... it took me all afternoon... But how cool is that! http://nsa38.casimages.com/img/2017/...3112357449.jpg http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2017/...3111934505.jpg http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2017/...3110396287.jpg http://nsa37.casimages.com/img/2017/...3110139966.jpg I really like it! It's also probably a lot stiffer... but also more expensive and a ******************** to paint... Ben |
This is some nice work Ben.
How is this comparable to the stock unit airflow-wise? Bigger means better in this case? Still waiting for the 2.5 power kit, i.e. the car that needs it most imo lolll |
Thanks :)
Smoother bends than the original plenum, and bigger throttle body, and yes, bigger is better on this area! The only compromise is noise. A bigger throttle body is noisier (air noises). But really, you don't notice it. The problem with the 2.5 is: where to find a bigger throttle body? A 993 TB? Or an aftermarket one? The plenum has the same shape as the 996 plenum, straight T, so it'll be pretty easy to make. Thought, it is bigger than an "e-gas car" plenum, so it would be more expensive! If someone want's to be a guinea pig, I'll be happy to work with him! |
Or get one of these
:dance::dance: And just to be clear. I'm first in line for the 996 plenum.:D |
For a mechanical body 2.5 the upgrade path is the mechanical body 996 3.4.
|
Well I was ready to go back to oem configuration because my car didn't run right. Couldn't clear a misfire to cylinder 6 code after changing everything. My screwup. I switched the fuel injector wire with one of vacumm plugins so they look the same. Best news I had all year! So tomorrow I will rebuild her.
|
Ahah, that happens ^^
Glad you found the problem and that it's nothing bad :) |
First 996 plenum installed! :D

Can anyone tell me if there is an aftermarket or oem throttle body and plenum combo that works with the stock intake tube on a 3.2?
The technotorque 2 is discontinued and everything else (Ben's, ipd) requires a new intake tube. It doesn't look like you can buy ipd's tube separately either. |
If you want a bigger throttle body you HAVE to use another intake tube.
The intake tube has the same diameter as the throttle body. You can make an intake tube for pretty cheap, it shouldn't be a problem ;) |
Just to recap (sorry),
I'd buy from Ebay: - 74mm Throttle Body - Larger intake piping I'd buy from you: - 74mm plenum So the larger intake tube would fit on to the new throttle body, which would fit onto your new plenum. Anything else I'd need? :) |
No that's all! ;)
You already have the exhaust, I just recommend a K&N drop-in panel filter, it's cheap and worked wonder on mine! |
Sooo, I have been quiet lately... not because I gave up... But because I've been very busy ;)
https://i95.servimg.com/u/f95/13/27/76/86/img_2910.jpg I'll let you guess what it is ;) And I spend the rest of my free time doing this... full makeover for my 986S! https://i95.servimg.com/u/f95/13/27/...h/img_2913.jpg I also started a website and an enterprise that will be in working order very soon ! WTF!!! Hit us with the details Ben006!
|
For now, we’re running into problems with the inner part of the mould.
It should be resolved soon with a better suited mould ;) |
Good looking stuff there Ben , but if you want a REAL challenge how about designing and producing an AOS that performs and lives in the real world ?
