02 Boxster Strut

Hey guys,

My wife has an '02 Boxster and went to get new tires. The shop put on tires in the front and when they went to move it out of the bay, the drivers side tire was rubbing on the top of the strut (where the spring starts) but not on the passengers side. They told her that she must have hit a pothole or curb and bent the strut. Now they want to replace the strut. Looking at the bottom of the spring, it seems to me that the steel part holding the bottom of the spring is not something that can be bent. Am I wrong or does the strut need to be replaced?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

I guess it COULD bend but I would think that the kink in it would be visible once the wheel is off. I wonder if the wheels are of the wrong offset- Are they original equip? Are the tires the original size? Did the old tire rub? I'll bet the wheels are aftermarket and a small wheel spacer will solve the rub.

Struts can bend slightly along the length of the strut, not the spring cup. If it was bent enough to lower the car it must be leaking fluid. Did they install taller tires than what it arrived on? That's the only way it could be a problem now & not before the tires were replaced.
