It would be fun to propose Porsche special Tools for Ben to make on his new lather. He is going to need lots f new tooling and we need lots of tool !
My first suggestion is an improved version of the Transmission mount tool.
There is a diy version shown early in this Thread and a video of the AGA tool. Both tools could be improved and Ben is the guy to do that !
See Post 5 & 9 here:

That tool is already quite nice! I have to do mine soon, we'll see what I can come up with! It's more practical on the boxster you can take the whole assembly out :)

I finally started the lathe!
It works great! But the tools I bought are too small... The point is too low... I'll just buy better ones!

I'm also done with the basic design of the "new shifter". It will cost more, of course, but if I can make it work with the gate it will be worth every penny!

As soon as I get some money back I'll order some shifter and start a new batch :)

The lathe works great!

I ordered the base shifters! I'll try new, bigger ball bearings, we'll see!

If you cant one, you can send me a PM.
But it won't be available until a few weeks at least! The time I need to receive the shifters, bearings and other stuff :)

I also ordered the prototype for my other project, if it works good, I'll work on the gate to replace the boot ;)

1ST gen shifter

Ben I am sure the second generation will be even better.

For anyone that might be interested in a 1st generation with new cable ends I have listed mine in the Boxster parts classifieds. I never installed mine :( and will be looking at selling my boxster in the near future.

Apologies if this is considered an inappropriate post for this thread. Just thought some of you might be interested.

No prob you can post here!
Too bad you are selling your Boxster!

Hi guys!
I have not received the shifters yet... they are stuck at the french customs...

I received my prototype for the new style shifter too!
I’ll try to put some pictures when I’ll be home :)

Ben006 09-28-2017 09:06 AM

Still stuck at customs...

They suck!

I installed one on my car and made a video on how to get to it, I just have to put the video together :)

I also gathered almost everything to make the new style shifter! It's gonna be nice!

Any shifters available? Made it through customs yet? If so, I'm in.
Thanks,
Patrick

Unfortunately no :( I'm still fighting with TNT to get my package but they aren't taking their responsibilities! It's my first and last time with them...

Ben006 11-01-2017 08:51 AM

Finally some good news! They will send me another package full of shifters, and hopefully this one doesn't get stuck for ever at the customs!

I received it!

After two month being a few miles away from me I finally received the shifters!
A week after they sent me another order...

So, yeah, I will have A LOT of shifter available soon ;)

PM me!

Ben,
Converting raw material into finished product at last.
Congratulations on your triumph over logistics and bureaucracy !

It may help if you explain (again) the difference between this version of your shifter and the First Edition?
I have the last of the First Edition shifters. It works very well and improved slightly after the first few hundred gear changes.

Ben006 11-12-2017 09:11 AM

I was so happy when I received the tracking update!

Well, this one is like the last ones. Four ball bearings instead of bushings, and a needle bearing in the lever. I don't use pennys anymore! I finally found the perfect washer, cheap, strong, and the right size!

Turning the parts myself on my lathe is so much faster than waking up at 5AM to bring the parts to the machine shop before 7AM and getting them back after a week...
I'm not as good as the machine shop, but I've controled all the parts before assembly :)

It also motivated me to continue my upgraded shifter...

Doesn't look too good right now, but wait until it's coupled with a gate ;)

I’m sure I’m asking something already here somewhere, but what is the cost for one of these masterpieces for a 2000 Boxster S, and what is the lead time?

Ben006 11-18-2017 02:14 AM

Hi!

The new price is 115€ shipped to the US :)

They are readily available (well, almost, I have enough available until I have the time to make more).

CdnRD 11-18-2017 05:48 AM

Same price with shipping to Canada?
