After one days driving I beg to differ. This is a toy within a toy and needs to be continuously adjusted. Full intensity for top down city driving at dusk, medium intensity after that, lowest intensity with the top up, and off for night time top up long distance driving. At least that's me, other's mileage may differ.

Just recalled you've got the cold white. Yea these are pretty sexy and can be cranked a bit without being seen from space. The RED however needs to be left at 5% at all time I'm afraid.

LOL you remind me of my mate here who drives a 987. We've airbrushed his deflector with PORSCHE using phosphorescent pigments (0 volt!). He told me "man every time I see a SUV, a van or a truck in my rear mirror I just pull in front of him so that his headlights can recharge the pigments for 10-20secs"

At first I went 'hahaha' and then his GF goes; he is serious, some guy was beeping at us yesterday because we were blocking his way LOL

All good fun!

SkyGlow: Here some one+ month old R&D lollll Looks okay, nothing like the SkyBreaker tho... no edge lighting :/ Takes about 10secs to charge up but discharge within 20-30min

Hey Fred, will you paint my whole car? Lol

JayG 02-03-2015 01:22 PM

you evil genius, definitely have too much time on your hands

Just started playing with my new windscreen and a 9V battery. It is very, very cool! I may swap out the white LED for blue before I install it. Unfortunately, I am waiting for it to get warmer and my hardtop to come off before I wire it up. I also need to find another plastic frame for the plexiglass, mine is starting to break.

As always, exquisite work by Fred.

The photo doesn't do it justice, and it still has contact paper on the back:

aha - not too much time Jay, quite the opposite. This came to mind when I was being harassed by my mate here, asking for his SkyBreaker, every day almost. Didn't had much time to prototype the 987 kit, etc etc. Told him: just drop by and I'll give you a temp solution. We'll do his 987 SkyBreaker kit later this spring

False alarm sorry

hemonu 02-04-2015 11:52 PM

@JonD:
I had the same problem. But it was a matter of the right pulling force. I pulled quite hard at both upper ends of the frame and one end moved a bit. From that it was possible to go on all around the window.

Herbert since you saw what I wrote before. There's actually a VERY simple no force way to remove the Perspex, In fact NO effort at all.

Get a flat screw driver one that fits between the Perspex and the frame (there's a tiny gap at the TOP of the frame). Lever it a little and gently pulling towards the frame the Perspex tab just pops out away from the frame then it just comes out.

Really simple and no effort actually :)

Fintro11 02-05-2015 03:39 PM

Thanks Fred glad I could contribute something at least. The pic is someone else's (Fintro) can't take credit for that, I just added the down arrow and the writing :)

I think some people may be able to pull the frame away easily, unfortunately mine was stuck like it was glued in, I nearly gave up trying and was going to see if I could buy another frame, as a last resort I tried the screw driver and was amazed how easily it popped out :) So I thought I'd share in case someone else experiences the same problem as I did.

Cheers:cheers:

Who was it that said "Give me a long enough lever and I will move the Earth"? Hint he was Greek

What do the experts think about using a fuse tap? Ideas on which circuit to use? I want to run the wire to the driver foot well and then locate the switch next to the document holder under the steering wheel.

I like the idea of the LEDs coming on when I turn on the headlights.

amagalla 02-06-2015 03:44 PM

I personally like the idea of the LEDs coming on with the parking lights.

Fintro11 02-06-2015 04:03 PM

Having it on the ash tray, the skybreaker turns on as soon as you turn the light switch to parking lights or headlights

BruceH 02-06-2015 04:16 PM

I ended up tapping into fuse E1 which should be the radio according to my diagram. There is a hole just above the fuse panel that I put a bolt in to use as the ground. I found that tidbit on the forum when someone hard wired their radar detector. I ran the wire under the sill plate. Very impressed with the light itself. Be careful cleaning though. I used a microfiber cloth that actually caused some very slight scratches:eek: I was able to polish them out with some Plastix.

I put the control next to the document holder with some Velcro.
