Replaced Boxster logo with 986
 

Just finished a fun little project to replace the black Boxster logo on the trunk with a "986"....I wanted a little more contrast with my black box so I painted the numbers with 5 coats of Wurth Silver Wheel Paint and Clearcoat .....took a while to buff out all remnants of the old logo glue from the car .....but I think it came out nicely...

Looks good. Where did you end up getting the new emblem? What did you us to get the old glue off?

I need to change out or remove my rear emblem as it is in bad shape. I was thinking of replacing it with something along the lines of "Chevrolet", "Hupmobile" or "Tucker" just to see the reaction. I'd only do that if it was easily replaced though.

Along those lines I was giving the Boxster its weekly wash and noticed the "S" on the trunk was coming loose, so I removed it, and also gave it a repaint.

I used Acetone on the "S" to prepare and clean it and to my surprise the existing paint came right off, leaving the unpainted black plastic.

I added several coats of Silver metalic flake paint and it looks better than new.

Porsche9 - got the emblem on ebay ...it is actually a Porsche 968 logo ....part #9445592200370C

1) heat up existing logo slightly with a hair dryer
2) use waxed dental floss to slowly cut thru the glue
3) used 3M automotive adhesive remover from Autozone to remove residual glue
4) used dual action polisher to get the paint right/remove any hint of "Boxster"
5) manually raised the spoiler to block up the letters (also spoiler conveniently has a screw dead center)

Every 2-3 years I
1) clay bar
2) use a dual action polisher with Meguiars's Ultimate Polish Pre-Wax Glaze
3) use the dual action polisher with old fashioned Turtle Wax Carnauba Car Wax
4) park it under a car port, but with a cover when not in use

I have wanted to do this since I found out it was a thing. I'm going to order the emblem tonight. Now I have to decide what color I would like. The silver on black looks good on Doragman's I bet the opposite would also look good as my car is arctic silver.

it comes in black ...so no painting !

I've been thinking of taking my "Boxster S" off to paint it black, currently a dull silver. I like the 986 logo idea though.
what sort of adhesive are you using to put it back on? standard emblem adhesive?

The Emblem comes with adhesive already on the back. ;)

are you referring to a new emblem or are you saying that the adhesive currently on the emblem will be reusable after I take it off and paint it?

New emblems come with adhesive already on the back, with a peel-away backing. Just make sure your new emblem is centered before you peel off the backing to attach, AND make sure the car surface is clean. If you use your old emblem instead of a new one, you will need to add emblem adhesive to it to reattach. For mine I used emblem adhesive that I bought at AutoZone.
When I did mine I wiped the car surface down with rubbing alcohol and paper towels to remove dirt and oils. And I aligned everything using masking tape to make sure my lines were straight.
Here's a HINT: to help you with centering, raise your rear spoiler manually (using the button on the drivers side kick panel) - when it's up you will see there is a bolt that holds it in place, which is directly centered to the back of your car. Use that as your frame of reference for centering and it will line up perfectly.
