2002 engine swap to a 2005

My 2002 motor is blown and not repairable.Does anyone know if a 2005, 2.7 engine can go in a 2002 car with a 2.7?
Will I need to to change or upgrade the computer?

You will have to accommodate for different engine management systems. It will not be a direct drop in swap.

Stay away from conversions. Source the correct engine for the car.

Reading the 101 Boxster projects the 2002 uses 7.2 DME and the 2002 CAN BUS so you'd need to custom remap the DME. You will need a 2000-2002 engine with the same displacement if you want to avoid remapping the DME.

Could be very expensive. 7.2 DME for 1999 to 2002 is different the cams are not controlled the same. the cam sensor is at cylinder 3 and 4 electro-mechanical adjustor adjusts the chains. 3 chain 2003 to 2006, 7.8 DME cam is control by valve and clutch on the intake cam sprocket. Cam sensors at cylinder 1 and 6

Engine
7.8 DME
Harnesses
immobilizer with key fabs

Thanks for all the replies,
Mike, I don't have 9+ grand for a motor and the value of the car is not worth that expense.
Thanks

I will stay with a 2000 to 2002, 2.7 engine at a cheaper price.

Check out Ebay, there is a motor for just over 3K.

If you can swing a wrench at all, and have the spot to do it, swapping in a new (like) motor is not a big deal. If you don't have tools, the tool set to do it (jacks, jack stands etc) will be several hundred dollars. I'm just finishing up a rebuild and recording the installation for posterity.

I'm in Houston, Texas, you nearby? If so your tool cost just went down.
