Side door arm rest removal
 

Hey guys- I searched around and found a few answer, but I may be looking for the removal of a different part.

I want to take the side door arm rest trim off and refinish it. Mine is painted silver like the one circled in the attached picture, and it is very scratched. Is there a way to remove just that silver "bar" part of the arm rest from the door panel?

Pertaining to the armrest…there are 2 pins in each. I used a wire to "poke" them out. You could use a larger paper clip, or I suppose, a punch would work. They are quite easy to remove. Just look on the underside of the armrest, the solution will be easy.

BTW, what color are you trying to paint? I thought about placing a cushion (foam) on there and using leather, bind it to the armrest…but then I remembered…it's not a Mercedes! :D

The "bar" comes our easily enough with a screw located underneath the pull handle cover. The arm rest can be removed by taking out the hinge pins.

Homeboy- that was the best picture in "google images"!!! My car is red leather, but has the same OEM silver painted accents. The first owner and his wife wore lots of rings and scratched the crap out of the silver "pull bars" or whatever you'd like to call them that runs from the door handle, down under the pocket cover/armrest. That is the piece I would like to remove.

That "bar" on mine is the factory color. I did not paint that.

As Heli said, the screw is located under handle, remove the armrest pins and you will see where it attaches.

I have seen pics of my car on forums that I'm not even a member of. A Google search for either "Porsche emblem" or "Porsche chrome emblem" will both bring up a picture of the rear of my car within 1 or 2 pages...that was a little weird the first time it happened.

Anyways, Particlewave I like the Porsche scrip on your car. Is it running in a straight line or parallel to the trunk edge???

Neither, though. After playing with the letters, I found the optimal curve to be slightly less than the line of the trunk. Following that line makes it look like its smiling at you, and having it straight made it look like it curved up in the middle.

With this curve, it looks perfectly straight when viewed from the rear, yet has a nice curve when viewed directly ;)
