Best time to drive a convertible with the top down is on a cool overcast day or at night. 45 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit with the seat heater on. Even better in a car with a heated steering wheel. I could and have driven for hours on such days.

that only works if you don't have variable speed wipers. That spot is where that control lives

Thanks for the clarification, JayG. Because I don't have variable speed wipers on my '03, I wasn't aware of this and while the solution works well for me, I wouldn't want to lead anyone else astray.
