New AOS

I installed the Motorsport AOS this evening Not terribly hard or time consuming I was completed in 2 hours including, R&R motor cover, R&R belt cover, and replace unit. It is much bigger and I hope it work as well as people have said.

How much did this equipment cost you and where did you get it?

ekam 10-21-2011 09:45 AM

Do you have deep sump spacer and X51 oil pan as well?

jsceash 10-21-2011 12:07 PM

The parts were purchased through My local Porsche dealership. They have been giving me a discount so the tube from 4-6, 2 longer Socket HD Screws and the new AOS cost me $665 and change. If can figure out how to post pictures I have them. The sump extension from LN is on my tool Box. If time permits, this will be Sundays Project.

Thank you for the detailed parts list, item numbers.

My question is: I have a '05 996 3.6L in my Boxster, will these parts be the same for that motor as well as your 2.7L?

Any insight would be great as I'd like to do this over the Christmas Holiday.

jsceash 11-06-2011 03:50 PM

I'm going to say yes, But take the numbers to the dealer. They can put them into the Porsche system and tell every year the number fits. I got some of the first numbers from a DE instructor he used on an 08, CS

How hard was this DIY?

I replaced my AOS with an OEM AOS and it was quite difficult. I think it is mainly because it was my first time doing such a replacement and also because I did not have the clamp attachment (pedro and others have referenced this tool) which is used to hold open the hose clamps. If I had that tool it would have been a much smoother install for sure. Without it, took me about 3-5 hours out in the country with limited tools. Not recommended for the impatient.

brink - since yours is a race car, why not go with a catch can setup? plug off the throttle body & route the AOS outlet to a catch can instead.

97 Boxster 11-29-2011 10:45 AM

Where is the best place to get that hose clamp tool? Thanks

insite 11-29-2011 11:01 AM

you can buy them at pep boys.

It was no real bad. I think it took me 2-1/2 to 3 hours 2 beers. Remember the motor sport Aos requires the old hose gets replaced. I cut he old 4,5,6 hose in 3 places and took it out in pieces. The book says remove the 1,2,3 intake, after cutting the hose this was not needed. R&R motor covers top and front. R&R right rear wheel. R&R intake t-body and plemnum. I took the 2 screws out and pulled up the AOS it poped off the lower hose no tool. Snapping on 4,5,6 hose was hardest part. I push the hose back through and pulled it into place twised it down and pushed it on to the connector with a blunt scewdriver until it snapped. I took off the old clamp installed a new 5/8" worm clamp and thightened through the wheel well on right rear

After uncliping the 2 breather hoses and unbolting the AOS I just pulled up on the OLD AOS it did not take a tool. I replaced it with a worm clamp and a 5/16" nut driver. from the right wheel well.

Just replaced the AOS several weeks ago on a 2002 S. Clamp removal tool also available at Sears. Not very expensive and well worth it in time savings and skinned knuckles (large hands). I did however replace the clamp with the worm gear type.

Cable Operated Hose Clamp Pliers- Craftsman-Tools-Auto & Mechanics Tools-Auto Specialty Tools

Very nice tool. I've used it several times, on the AOS, oil filler tubes, SAI hose, etc...

And since I now have this tool, I just replaced the OEM clamps with OEM clamps. I find it easier to remove/install the OEM clamps with this tool, vs. a a worm gear one with a socket/ratchet. Just personal preference.
