Tinted Windscreen
Hi all,
For the longest time I contemplated how to tint my windscreen to match the look of my tinted windows. Painting does not work and window tint film would eventually bubble. I found some DIY instructions on how to cut one using tinted plexiglass, but this was complicated and the cost of a whole sheet can get expensive. http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/986_boxster_mods/new_windstop/ The other week I found a company who actually specializes on doing this, cutting Windscreens for Boxsters and other cars! I bought and installed and it looks great! http://www.dynamicautoconcepts.com/ProductDetail2.aspx?ID=8 Here are some pictures. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9sTq_sN1KDw/Sd...2009%20007.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9sTq_sN1KDw/Sd...2009%20001.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9sTq_sN1KDw/Sd...2009%20002.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9sTq_sN1KDw/Sd...2009%20004.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_9sTq_sN1KDw/Sd...2009%20008.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_9sTq_sN1KDw/Sd...2009%20011.jpg |
Is your rear window tinted also?
|
Yes, look at my signature. Even with the top up, l can still through my rear window fine.
|
Where's your roll bar wind screens? I have too much wind noise / buffering without them in.
|
I didn't like the look of the screens...so I sold them.
I like the way my roll bar looks now...looks like a real roll bar, pops! I painted the hooks on the back of the seat gray, but I need to go a shade lighter in gray...do that later this week. |
Or change them out with with these (which I am thinking about doing). I'll never use the hooks on the back of the seats.

crios - I like it! that looks really cool. the combo of the tinted side windows and the rear windscreen works. if you had only done one and not the other it would look weird - but I like how it all ties together.
your car has turned out really nice. what else is there for you to do to it???? did you tint your rear brakelight? |
how much did you pay? i don't want a sig...just plain like yours!
|
It doesn't look right without the rollbar windscreens to me, other than that the car looks great
|
Paid $130, which included shipping.
I actually painted my 3rd brake light.....bored...why not! :) |
Logos
Am I the only one that liked the logos / signage on the windscreen?
My neighbor for the UK would drool with envy if I had the Guiness logo. |
Mine is painted and has been for a few years.
I used pain made to tint the windows in model cars. |
mounting
Crios - do they use their own brackets or the porsche windscreen mounting?
|
You have to use your existing bracket.
The old one pops out really easy using a flat head screw driver on the ends and working your way down. |
Had to be different
so electric blue on order.
|
Electric blue installed.
The wind Restrictor folks are great to work with. Original wind screen did not fit - so I sent it back with the frame. they fit it properly and retured it to me.
great wat to personalize your ride. |
just pulled this old thread back up - dayum that 986 looks SWEET!
i want to copy all your cosmetic mods.... tinted screen, side windows.. rear window. do you have the clear or smoked third brake light? |
Looks great! I actually tinted mine with the usual headlight tint stickers u get off the shops but at 10% darkness (hoping no bubbles anytime soon) and stuck the porsche word on, will post it once i get the chance.
|
Valor - post up some pics of that when you get a chance. I'd like to see it!
|
I am looking for a template of the wind screen. One side would be enough as the ends are mirror images. Do you know where one might be available? My car had a windscreen at one time but when I purchased the car it has the clips that attach to the roll bar but no screen. I can get 4 mm lexan, just need the pattern. Thanks for any assistance.

Wow, I really need to paint my calipers yellow.
