Maintenance Advice
Need some advice on a few projects I am planning/doing.....
First - It is a 1998 base model with 33K miles. It isn't going to be driven much. It is in the garage for the winter now, so I have plenty of time to do projects. 1- Spark plug change. I just did the plugs yesterday. Unfortunately, I should have read some of the threads about anti-seize first. I did put it on all of the plugs. The car is still up on jack stands for other projects. Should I pull the plugs back out a clean off the anti-seize the best I can, or just leave it? I am planning to change the plugs every other year (Driving 3-5K year). 2 - Brake pads/flushing - Next I am going to bleed the brake fluid. The pads look to be OK, but hard to really tell without taking them out. (How do you measure them?). Since I am already going to bleed brakes, should I just replace the pads while I am at it? What is a good source for brake fluid, and how much will I need to do a flush? 3 - Any other things I should do while I am in there? Oil and various filters have already been done. Maybe serpentine belt? Any advice would be great! |
Your plugs should be just fine.
Changing your drive serp belt sounds like a good idea too. They are about $25. Maybe take-off front bumper and clean out the rads. Clean-out all of the drain tubes for the top. Coolant change. Trans/gear oil. |
Why would putting anti-seize lube on the threads be a bad thing?

What do they mean by dry torque? I have always put a dab of Mobile1 engine oil on the threads and under the washer before torqueing. Would this cause overtightening?
Also, a 3/8 drive beam style torque wrench is ideal for plugs! |
