FS 1999 Boxster, seized engine
 

The car had 77,000+ miles on it when the engine failed.
While I had the car, the brakes, rotors and sensors were replaced with OEM German parts. The front and rear control arms/bushings were also replaced. Rear track arms were replaced. The front and rear sway bar drop links were replaced. The shifter coupler was replaced with a EVOMS billet piece.
A full 4 wheel alignment was done.
I had the AC recharged in 2019.
A new Porsche ignition key was purchased and programmed in 2018. ($600)
Delay wiper relay was installed in 2019.
New low beam, high beam and fog light bulbs were replaced in 2019.
New rear directional signal bulbs were replaced in 2019.
New front directional/parking bulbs were replaced in 2019.
New rear trunk and front trunk lamp bulbs were replaced in 2018.
The rear trunk insignia (Boxster) was replaced in 2018.
New Lloyds floor mats (rubber) were installed in 2018.

There is a full original tool kit, original spare tire and owners manual kit. 2 keys with remote lock/unlock and trunk release.

A new battery was installed at 58,000 miles by the previous owner.
The springs were replaced and the MAF sensor was replaced at 64,500 miles by the previous owner.
The flywheel, clutch kit and IMS/DOF kit was replaced/installed at 65,600 miles, by the previous owner.

The car is silver over brown.
I replaced the soft top last year getting the best top I could buy with a glass window and defroster.

I also have a hardtop from a 2001 silver Boxster, with defroster, Porsche branded stand/cart for the hardtop with a cover. I can easily sell these separately for $1300, but will include these at the right price with the car.
I installed a bluetooth AUX with microphone system (where the multi CD player usually plugs in) that integrates very well for music or phone for calls and GPS instructions.
There is a push button for answering a call, added to the dash. The button can be removed and a blank button put back in place to return to original condition.
There were no modifications to the radio for this installation.
Lastly, I installed a aftermarket rear speaker system that is plug and play with the original radio. It sounds great and works without any modifications to the original radio.

Until the engine gave up, the car was absolutely perfect. It drove like it was on rails and was a blast to drive.
The interior is in very good condition. The driver seat has slight bolster wear. The exterior has a few rock chips and some scratches here and there. Nothing serious and there is no rust at all anywhere.

I would love to get $4K for the car without the hardtop and accessories, and it is a bargain for someone, but I will discuss offers.

Did you ever diagnose the reason for the seizure?

I had my mechanic just try to turn the engine with a wrench. I didn't care to spend another dime investigating. Pretty upsetting/frustrating to me.
Those who know more than me about the 2.5 engines indicate it is probably the "D-Chunk" issue with a cylinder liner breaking off, thus dropping the oil pressure and then seizing that cylinder, or possibly other engine surfaces in addition, due to low oil pressure.
I was driving 65 on the highway in 5th gear and the only thing was a loss of power and then I saw a blinking check engine light for a few seconds. Then every light went on like a Christmas tree.
There was no indication of something breaking, no "bang". No oil spilling on the highway, no exploded block or head.
There was plenty of oil, I had checked the level a few hours earlier. Until failure the car was running like a Swiss watch.
This car had the IMS/DOF system installed by the previous owner and confirmed by my mechanic.

That's my sad story and I'm sticking to it.

Have you considered keeping the car... maybe throwing in BYPro's motor? It sounds like your car is a keeper, and that new engine would make it one certainly so.

I really can't put any more into this car.
As it was my daily, I needed a car, fast, and got a used '17 Mazda3 Hatch.
It's no Porsche, but far more practical and somewhat fun to drive.
Actually it's a letdown from the Box, but time to move on.
I have 2 other cars. I'm also selling is a 1965 Corvair Corsa Coupe 140.
Keeping a '90 Ferrari Mondial T Cabrio, for now, until the market rebounds.
Then that will go as well.
Have my eye on a Corvette C8, but that's a long way off.
