GA: 2000 Blue Boxster Base Project Car $2K

Bought this a few weeks ago and the engine failed shortly after. Listing here to see if anyone is interested in a complete project car before I try and find a replacement engine. Nothing special about it other than the color and that it's in good condition. Top is good, everything works, has 165K miles. Vehicle history shows no accidents, but the driver's headlight has obviously been replaced. Clean clear title, suspension was replaced from a donor car and has less than 20K miles (per PO). Tires are good (but Falkens). Both keys, original manual.

Only known issues:
- Cracked windshield (doesn't affect view)
- Cracked seats
- Airbag light on
- Small interior imperfections
- Bad engine (metal and plastic in oil, cam sensor codes)

Other items in the last 15K miles:
- Stainless exhaust
- Speedtuning ECU flash
- Clutch
- CVs
- Hub centric spacers
- New stereo
- IMS and rear main (like that matters now)

Asking $2,000

I can email more pictures to anyone interested.

what a beautiful car! That color is wonderful! I wonder what blew the engine up since the IMS was replaced.
Very good deal, though! Seems like a prime opportunity to slap a big engine in there.

Thx! The color is what sold me and what makes it hard to sell. Only thing I can figure is there was enough of the old IMS shrapnel in there to destroy the new one.

I only wish I had to skills to do a big engine swap!

Yeah that can be a problem. Sometimes people will see a little debris in their oil pan, or their IMSB will fail but not wreck the whole engine. Then, they just swap the bearing when what they really need is a full clean/rebuild.
For me, those rare colors are a huge sell (particularly on the older Porsches). I would personally never want one of the more-common colors.

For the price of a solid used engine... and fixing up the ancillary problems... you'd have a great car. Don't get rid of it, man. Not for $2K. Fix her, and remain in the club.

Cheers!

Beautiful car...I'd keep her..just pick up a used 2.5l engine for like $2,000 off ebay. The labor shouldn't be more than $1,000-1,500.

Thanks, it’s still a possibility.

If you just want to throw another base engine in there, it sure isn't that expensive.
And you likely don't need the whole thing anyways.

IMO that's too much for a 155K motor. The ad even says it'll need new seals & gaskets. I wonder what it looked like before it was "cleaned thoroughly."

This would be a better buy IMO.

But Fiddlebog is right. An engine isn't that expensive. Look around.

Yeah, that's probably a better plug&play option. I think that the amount of work that needs to be done on the one I linked probably isn't that bad, though. In my experience, the worst part about engine work is getting the darn thing out!

But the one you linked is great considering the mileage.

Then again (and perhaps most importantly) a little patience and research could get you one steal of a deal. Especially on the base-model engines. I've seen people practically give them away.
Another option (albeit the most difficult one) is to find a piece of junk parts car with a good motor.

Interested, if it is still for sale.

Apologies for not updating this sooner, but it sold a while back.
