1st race in 986

Hey everyone! I have a 2002 boxster 986 2.7l with a Automatic tiptronic transmission
Only mods are LN engineering IMS, fabspeed cold air intake, and custom exhaust which consists of secondary cats and muffler delete I installed two aero tr20 resonators where the cats was. and two 12" resonators where the stock muffler was. Anyway, today I raced a 5.0 mustang must not have been older than 2016 but im not to sure. We raced three times from a 25mph roll, we was about even till around 98mph when he let off. Either I was a few bumper lengths ahead or he was just depending on who floored it first. I was extremely impressed with the 2.7l. I thought for sure my car wouldn't stand a chance. I'm sure if it was from a dead stop he would have smoked me.

Better reinforce those intake welds.

Are you quite certain that the Mustang was 'racing' with you? Is it possible he was just playing around and had better sense to not push it hard? Mebbe you should make some race videos for teh YouTube.

I agree. That's easily worth a couple hp.

Additionally: I've found that I can hook up the rear end a little better on launch if I raise the spoiler first. No extra power, but helps it stick. Try that too!

Definitely was racing. And I'm not sure what the Engine was just assumed 5.0 it had duel tail pipes

Hopefully this activity was on an abandoned airstrip. Don't want to spend a night in the gray bar hotel.

It was right as I was leaving ft bliss military base there is a long stretch of road just after the gate couldn't pass up the opportunity.

That was not a 5 liter mustang, it was a 6 or 4 cyl

Tim, I'm afraid we're all having a little fun with ya. You'll find that most here have a relatively low opinion of street racing, and your story sounds a little, um.... "young". Hehe.
However, there's lots of room here for all types of enthusiasm. So let's not dissuade you from it!

Not far from where you're at, there's a nice little track called "Aroyo Seca', in Deming N.M. I'd bet there's a PCA chapter doing HPDE's there (or maybe at another track near you?). I can assure you that you di that ONCE, and you'll find yourself going faster than you ever thought you would.... and you'll be hooked.

Street racing isn't really my schtick. Never has been. It falls squarely in the realm of drifting and sportbike stunters: I'm unimpressed.

If it was a 2016 or newer Mustang, it was not racing you. Even the turbo four would spank a 2002 2.7 five speed. I'm guessing the Mustang driver was just playing along.

The slowest version of a 2016 Mustang is at least a second quicker in the 1/4 mile than a 2.7 986 with a 5-speed. This probably isn't news to you, but the Tip is not as quick as the five-speed. If it was a V8 Mustang, it gets double the HP of your Boxster. Yes, the Ford is heavier, but not twice as heavy. It's simple physics, Timothy!

Playing with Mustangs on the track is so much more fun anyways

If you haven’t seen this gem before turn the sound up and watch the whole thing

It must have been a v6 mustang. Well I'm still impressed with this car only had it 3 months I dont have a lead foot or like to race just wanted to see what she had.

That's on my home track - Raceway Park of the Midlands (RPM).
