Gauging interest

I spoke with Joe Toth about producing side scoops for the 986 crowd. Seeing that that 996tt ones he developed had great cooling/directed air flow data I thought this would be beneficial to the spec Boxster crowd or for people that just want a benificia look.

Thoughts?
Concerns?
Interest?

I've emailed back/forth with him as well regarding a rear diffuser similar to what he makes for the 987. he does great work, but seems to have little interest in the 986?

He has intrest if the owners do. The item would be for sale if there were pictures. What the 986/996 side vents lack is protruding over the body lines to grab air like it should but, since they are streamlined they really don't.

I am interested in that too, would definitely be in for a pair (or just one for the driver side if that is all that is needed). I volunteer to do some beta testing if needed

I did look at some of the solutions he has for other cars - a picture of that would have been fine. Not sure how pricing will work out, but yeah, at north of $400 i'll be ok with how my 986 grabs air stock...

Since I'm fortunate to have them on my car - I'd be happy to send pics of them to assist in the effort. Mine actually go a couple places - one hose goes to the airbox in the trunk and one to a hose that goes to the oil cooler/starter area in the engine bay from the drivers side scoop. The passenger scoop goes solely to the air box in the trunk.

I already have a 3D model

I haven't really worked on it since a while... more than a year actually :/
If I remember, due to the big size of the part the price was quite high.

If I can sell them for 400$ I'll work on it all night and I'll have them available tomorrow ^^

Yes, WAY less than that! less than a 100$ each!

That is one tough looking ride. That's what I wish mine looked like. In my mind that's what it should look like

Very cool looking but illegal for Spec Boxster racing (on the intake side).

Rule 2. Engine, B. Replacement air filters cannot be larger than factory and must be drop‐in factory size and style. No modifications to engine air inlet and intake.

I wouldn't buy either designs shown. Rastta yours does show to be beneficial.
To the person in Canada you may be able to help in the design process. I won't continue if people are going to come in here to hijack my thread and go on with the idea. Not classy one bit....

Or you can just continue on your idea ?
Concurrence is healthy!

Nobody is stealing your idea here... pretty much anyone who thought about modifying his 986, thought about modifying the scoops that way. There are scoops like this available since years! Nothing new.

If you believe in your idea (which none of us have seen yet?) go on, if it's good you'll sell some.

You came to gauge interest, I think you have your answer: many of us have thought of it, there IS interest.

No hard feelings

Ben.

Yeah, you are too "prickly". Everyone is sharing ideas and being collaborative...I call that a good thing. And it looks like we have a great potential solution at less than $100. I'm in!!
