Paint protection tape for the track
 

As I will be taking my car to the track soon and wanted to protect the paint I started looking at something a little better than blue tape, I found ISC Surface Guard Tape, but it is a little pricey ~$60 for a 4" x 30' roll

I found this stuff
http://catalog.berryplastics.com/catalog-images/439_TDS5560_040114.pdf that looks like it might work well and its a lot less expensive, ~$20 for 4" x 108' ~$11 2" x 108'

It is a little thinner 5.5 mil vs 8 mil

What do you guys think?

Looks like it might be good to me. With a 4" wide strip it soul be easier to apply than blue painters tape. You don't want to look like a corvette while you're out there (they seem to cover their cars with blue tape...) :)

To get an idea of the thickness check out your garbage bags and see what mils they are. I think 5.5 mils may be substantial enough.

No personal experience but this is pretty popular with the 997 guys.

I'll be using 3M Paint Defender on my hood this year:

$24/can, spray on, peel off.
I tested it out an a couple of items and it sprayed well, looked almost optically clear, and peeled off as advertised. I've coated my hood already and it looks pretty good, except for the mosquito that landed in it. I'll write more later as I find out how well it holds up.
