Video - Autocross last weekend
So I ran in a small Autocross event last weekend. It was a very short course, followed by a long straight. It was incredible fun, although I didn't even come close to winning. I think I placed about 10 or so, out of 60 drivers. Not too bad. Especially if you consider some of these guys are driving highly modified, dedicated track cars, with racing tires, arriving on trailers. I'm told one car was "de-tuned" for this event down to only 600HP.
I just got a new GoPro, and did some very ameteurish editing to experiment with different camera angles. That was its own kind of fun. http://youtu.be/CaQP-X38bfg |
Nice! I was there last year... looks like the turnout was good.

Nicely done.
Learn to shuffle steer and move your wheel back or your seat forward an inch or two. It may feel odd at first but you will learn to like it and it will prevent full arm extension and the resulting less leverage/control of the wheel. You looked pretty smooth though which is great and doing a very curvy course is what the Boxster likes and those with gobs of extra HP don't. If not for the long straight you probably would have won the whole show. |
The nice part about that AX is that the course (and timing) officially ends at the *start* of that straightaway. That is, you only get timed through the twisty AX course. The run down that straight is just for fun to see how fast you can get your car going.

Perfect Lap, I was at that autoX in the green boxster. I was freezing out there. I did terrible that day, I couldnt get any heat into the 2 year old slicks.

It look amazing. You're closer to pro.

Nice drive Kelly, it looked like a fun day.
Smoothie, those 2yr old slicks are only good for about 8 HC. I am sure they are hockey pucks by now. |

I spoke with a heckuva nice guy at the last event who brought 2 of the engineering student built cars, he and a couple of other guys bought 6 of them (10 to 15 years old) from the local university. Very cool to look over the build details, also look very high strung and difficult to drive depending on the course. |
