what can I do to make a 00-04 boxster s quicker?
So hoping to get one soon don't wanna put a lot of cash into it I'm thinking intake headers cat delete tune and maybe some better tires would a boxster s handle that? Also I've seen many ppl take the yellow in the lights out front lights taillights and the side reflectors I've like to do that as well and put his / led or whatever would make them white what would that take to do can I just remove the yellow / tint it or do I need new light all around ?

get an engine from a 911.

Removing weight is definitely the most effective way to make any Porsche quicker.
|
IMHO one of the quickest ways to add speed to a Porsche is to learn to drive a Porsche correctly. I thought I knew how to drive until I attended my first driver training session.

Nite and day difference. I figure most Porshe drivers are not driving the car anywhere near what its capable of until someone shows them, and teaches them how. Its a pitty. Also adding the underdrive pully is the cheapest 10 hp you could gain for under $200. Remove the 2nd cats if your car has them, will quicken the throttle response and make you quicker for about $150. |

But it's a slippery slope that you may never recover from :-) UDP is good. Lighten the car. If you learn to seriously drive it You'll need to add a rollbar extender, and a sump extension with improved baffle system. You'll learn anyone can drive fast while going straight. Nothing like a 4 wheel drift accelerating past 80mph in a 90 degree turn :-) Mike |
Wait. You all mean to tell me that removing the yellow from the tail lights doesn't make it faster?
Dammit, I need to rethink my speed strategy. |
No reason to re-invent the wheel. Try these time tested upgrades...

And all this time I thought those stupid looking wings did nothing
Man I'm a dumbass Gotta get me a hood scoop for my Boxster too |

That rocks!!
We regularly pull 500+lbs from the Boxster's :) and all it costs you is *time* :) |
The 3.2L has the lowest HP/Liter of any of the company's water cooled H6 engines. However, don't let that fool you into believing that there is a lot of "easy" and "cheap" gains to be made. It's not going to be cost effective. On the up side, the car is "over chassis'd" rather than "over powered" which makes it forgiving.
The only time I want more power is when someone feels the need to cut me off or block me from entering a lane. These cars do not often endear you to your fellow motorists nor do they encourage courteous exchanges on the highway. For that reason, I wish I had the straight line performance to smoke that new Vtech Accord that decides to floor it to prevent me from changing lanes. I know better than to try. |

Drew: I see you are in Houston and I am too. It may be prudent for you to come over to my house and we talk about Boxsters and what can be done to them to "deamber" and the associated costs.
As far as getting more HP out of the car, you'll waste a lot of money getting 10hp or 20hp out of the motor with exhaust and underdrive pully upgrades and it still won't beat a lot of cars off the line. If that's what you want, buy a 911 Turbo or save yourself piles of cash and get a Mustang GT or an older Corvette. Trust us on this one. The problem for you and me in particular is we live in a place that is hot, flat, and there are very few twisty roads. A Boxster is designed for mountain roads or cruising around SOCAL where it's nice and cool, even in the summer. The bragging rights of saying you own a Porsche is very short lived when the freaking car will cost you $2,000 or more a year just to keep running... |
the 3.4 gets around 88 hp/l while the 3.2 gets 7.8. yet the 3.2 and 3.4 have the same bottom end, cams, cooling, etc. so, the power is getting left on the table with intake, exhaust and tune (as everyone says the 3.2 heads flow very well).
possible best power would be the 3.4's 88 hp/l which would but the 3.2 at around 280 hp - 30 hp gain. easiest/cheapest way - put second-hand 996 3.4 parts on the 3.2. exhaust: can't do it given the different engine orientations, but there are some good, inexpensive aftermarket solutions out there. intake: 996/997 plenum is cheap and easy. 996/997 throttle body is cheap and easy. 987 airbox is cheap and easy. 996 intake manifold (with 987 engine cover for clearance) is more work but possible (and cheap). tune: aftermarket (big $) but folks are working on using a 987 maf housing and pushing a 996 tune onto the car (cheap); hope to have some result on that shortly. if it all works then that's potentially 30 hp for say $1k. another 5 hp for $200 with a udp. dunno if $35/hp is worth it to you. |

If I were to buy another boxster and want some serious grunt from it, i'd buy a roller for under 5K, put a 3.4l in it, rip out that 500lbs of wiring, carpets and other stuff and go have some fun on the track. |
Drive Faster? Lol
