rain tires

hi. looking for recommendations on rain tire type and size for the oem 17" S wheels (7" front / 8.5" rear); must be DOT-approved to meet class regulations.

thank you.

I'd say anything with a tight and evenly distributed thread really, as dense as possible, ran at lower pressure. Expect +5~7 PSI when hot with those ATV style rubbers lol

Can't be any different than road racing superbikes in the rain

eg. if you are rich ;)

I don't know what rules you are running under, but Hoosier wets (H2O) are without a doubt the best DOT rain tire in existance if you are willing to pay for the best:

The next best is the Continental DW according to a GRM magazine test, and is my personal selection.

Resist the temptation to purchase wide rain tires. The narrowest tires for the wheel width that you are running will be less prone to hydro-planing due to the increased weight per square inch.

thanks. oem tire size for these wheels is 205/50 and 255/40; possible to fit something smaller? if so, any recommendations? thanks again.

Toyo Proxes RA-1 are DOT approved 100 UTQG/treadwear tires. They work quite well, are available in Boxster friendly sizes (235/40/17 and 255/4017), and are affordable.

In the wet, run them with full tread (8/32"). If you're going to run them in the dry, they need to be shaved either to 6/32" or even better, 4/32", otherwise they will slide around like crazy.
