In my case over here in Finland where the circuits are smaller the 5 speed box gives me the following advantages (in my 2001 Boxster S). .- It is lighter than the 6 speed .- It has a better ratio (I need acceleration rather than top speed) - We have only one track where I have managed to need 5th and even then only if I manage to carry enough speed in the exit in the corner before the straight... .- It is cheaper to replace |
Are you running non-S wheel carriers and axles for the 5-speed? My understanding was you need to swap the axles and everything between 5 and 6 speed cars.

Yes, I have the axles and wheel carriers (we call them uprights) from the 5 speed (but retained the Boxster S brakes. I also had to change the shifter cables and do some changes to the clutch, and some other small things to make it work... |
what's the cost involved to install a 5 speed in a 2004 boxster S ?

You will need to list up the parts and then cost it out. I would not do it unless it was a 100% dedicated racing car and would be beneficial for your circuits. I know Eric did it the other way round when he went to a 3.6 engine, and he also has said the cost is not small... |
Sorry that it has taken me some time to post after our last race, but I wanted to hold until the official results had been published. There had been some issues with the time recording for some of the cars in the last race, which were the 2013 season final. This has now been resolved and the results were published this morning.....
I WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP :D I came overall 1st for the 2013 season... And as an extra bonus our team CoolCava Racing won the team championship as well... The last race weekend which as I said was the season finals was held in Sweden on 7th and 8th of September at Mantorp - a really nice circuit to race on. I must say a big thank you to my sponsors for their support and help during the season: .- CCR Motorsports Engineering .- Specialist Vehicle Preparations .- Tarett Engineering .- Highgate House And with that the 2013 season is over! Now time to reflect on the season, decide what to improve on the car and get ready for 2014 (and try to find some new sponsors :) ) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1380370540.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1380370673.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1380370742.jpg |
Outstanding! :D
Congrats to you. TO |

Figured it was time for an update on this one :)
The season is over and soon we will have the big gala dinner with the official price giving etc... On the Boxster, I am not planning to do to much during the winter. The normal full service etc, and sort out the front end. During the last race of the season, the front splitter failed and started to hit the ground - after a closer look, the side mounts had broken. One option would have been to work on the mounts again and find a better way to secure the front splitter, but I was also having issues with getting the car on and off the trailer and wanted a solution that was more user friendly (OK, I just wanted a fun project :D ), so this lot is soon going to be arriving to the CCR garage  http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1382423839.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1382423855.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1382423901.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1382423933.jpg Now, on a related topic - I need some help spreading the word on this!! As you know I did a stupid thing during the 2013 season, I raced in a friends car (the white slant nose) and crashed it... End result was that I had to purchase it from Toni. I now have the car, and it is getting fixed and is up for sale. I need to shift this car to be able to race next season - my 2014 budget is in this car!!! Can you all please help spread the word and see if we can find a new home for this one? .- Advert on FaceBook .- Advert on Pelican Forum .- Advert on Race Cars Direct |
Looking good! Keep the updates coming!

The new front end has arrived along with the required 996RSR radiator ducting and mounting parts so that I can relocate the side radiators to vent correctly :)
All the new parts on the workshop floor ready to be installed... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1383902615.jpg I have done an initial test fit of the RSR front bumper and the part is a good fit, but shows how bad the A.I.R. fenders actually are. I have got RSR fender extensions arriving soon that I will need to attach to the A.I.R. fenders, but the joint between the fenders and the bumper at the sides is going to need a lot of work... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1383903215.jpg I also did not appreciate that the fenders on the RSR is not the same as on the road cars and GT3 Cup cars in that it has an additional section below the headlights which meets the bumper. I will need to fabricate a section to go here. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1383902860.jpg It is not easy to find details on the 996 RSR on the internet and I have limited access to parts diagrams, so some things are giving me some head scratching. One such thing is where the RSR front bumper is mounted on the underside to the car with two M8 bolts. As you can see in this picture, there is a gap between the underside of the bumper and the car - I have assumed that the frame part of the Boxster and the 996 RSR is the same at this location, and as such there must be a spacer or mount used on the RSR to fill this gap - anyone here know anything about this??? http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1383903080.jpg |
Hey Kroggers - where did you get those headlight covers?
I need something like that for track days. These weird shaped headlights are a pain to tape-up. |

Last weekend we had the 2013 season end gala dinner and award ceremony. An outstanding even with some great food and lovely people.
As a team we collected the "Best team of the season" award. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1386159473.jpg I have documented a retrospective look at the 2013 season on my blog The remaining parts for the RSR bodywork to the Boxster should arrive some time next week, and then the conversion project can be completed... |
Congratulations Kroggers - well done!

Congratulations:cheers:

Look out, Kimi!

Thank you all for the nice congratulations...
Here I am with the championship trophy - it has the winner for each year engraved on a plate and you get to keep it for the following season and the winning trophy (that I get to keep). My team mate Timo who got 2nd overall is next to me. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1386249861.jpg The team also released the 2014 promo video today - enjoy!!! to improve the air flow -- I've got a drive to the track Boxster S and its gets a little warm here in Texas. I don't really want to hack up the car -- but if there is some low hanging fruit/mods I'd be interested in that -- web links would work great. thanks, Mike |

.- Make sure that there is no way for the air to go past the radiators (air will take path of least resistance) .- Put a relay or switch on the cooling fans, so that you can keep them running longer manually. My issues were a collection of things that gave me a cooling issue at the end of the season. .- I removed the cooling fans to reduce weight. .- The gt3 front bumper I put on last season did not match well with the cooling guides to the radiators, so I had large gaps for the cool air to bypass the radiators. .- The race in Sweden was a longer faster track at a hotter day. |
2014 did not quite start the way I had planed it - Interesting way to start the 2014 season - Pål Krogdahl
http://paulkrogdahl.com/wp-content/u...06-3399-01.jpg But whilst I am stuck with a bad leg, my friends at LT-Studio have started the body work on the Boxster :) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1390042069.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1390042099.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1390042120.jpg Thought I would also promote my new web site and blog - Pål Krogdahl | Porsche SportsCup Driver with Team CoolCava Racing as well as the two new CCR web sites at CoolCava Racing | Porsche Racing and Motorsports Engineering | Porsche Racing and Motorsports Engineering |
Thought I would share some pictures from the ongoing RSR project - the font end is close to ready now, and we are deciding what to do about the rear end...

Some times words are not required and we can let the picture do all the talking - I think this is one of those times :)
The car is almost completed and ready to make the trip back home from LT-Studio who have undertaken this body modification for me :) http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1393438581.jpg |

Racing season is soon starting here in Finland - first race is on 18th of May, and the car is close to race ready... The bodywork is 99% done, just requires some fine tuning and then the car will be moved back to the workshop to have some mechanical stuff sorted out before first race... Was planning to get the live video feed sorted out before the first race, but due to other issues i have not been able to get that finalized in time - focus now is getting the car ready for first race, and then I will do as much of the other things as possible after. As always, feel free to follow the blog Pål Krogdahl | Porsche SportsCup Driver with Team CoolCava Racing and www.coolcavaracing.com http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1397881170.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1397881455.jpg |
Figured it was time for a quick update...
The season did not start as good for me this year :( I suffered issues with the clutch at the first race of the season and had to retire just two laps into the warm up session during the morning. So I packed up the car and drove home to fix it and get ready for the next race which is now on Saturday. I tested the car last Friday after replacing the clutch for a new one and she was running great again and ready for the race. I will try to remember to post results from the race on Saturday on here, but updates are always posted on www.paulkrogdahl.com Some action pictures from the test session last Friday. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1401902556.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1401902590.jpg |
Wow, Did not post anything last season - sorry for that!!!
Will try to do better this season :) But for now, we had the 2015 season start last weekend at Ahvenisto, and all in all it was not a bad start to the season. I took 1st in class for race one and 2nd in class for race two. The new top from Eric along with some other small changes has managed to get the car from approx. 1341kg wet with driver last year to 1214kg this year  Will need to look at suspension configuration and alignment, as the way the car was set-up last year does no longer feel best with the new lighter car... http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01/031433759969.jpg |
