Killed by a modified evo X

completely killed by a black debadged modified evo x. Could hear the blow-off like it was on the fast n furious movie.

not even close on the highway, he took off and i was left sitting there. I held on better against the 400hp Pontiac G8 GXP

quick little cars, shame they're just boring looking grocery-getters ;):D

kcpaz 06-26-2012 09:47 PM

So you're street racing in a straight line... in a Boxster?... I think you're confused...

Mrmaddbrad 06-26-2012 10:27 PM

Haha a modified Evo IX was the first fast car I ever drove, even before buying my 986S. Amazing cars. Really glue you into your seat :P Amazingly fun.

But I totally agree, they're rather big cars for what they can do.

panameras 06-27-2012 01:21 AM

I wouldn't say they are boring grocery getters, evos and wrxs certainly have their own charms, just like the bosxter has its own attractions and purpose. And racing in a straight line is definitely not one of boxsters strong suits.

986 Inquiry, guess you've never heard the story about the lion and the mouse?

ChrisZang 06-27-2012 06:19 AM

... or the guy who ran over a girl in his last street race ?

shadrach74 06-27-2012 07:11 AM

I would not even waste the effort trying to keep up with a boosted rice rocket. 986 is not a drag car in any sense of the word. It's wade for the twisties. The 986 chassis feels composed and relaxed on back roads at speeds that would be terrifying in other cars (just don't bottom the car out on an unfamiliar road... ;)

j.fro 06-27-2012 07:40 AM

Yeah, those are fast cars. And with a good driver and the right tires, they kill it at the track and AX events. I was AXing back in January and February in below freezing temps, and those AWD beasts were the only folks with manageable traction.
Still, I love my 986 (must lose weight, must lose weight, must lose weight...):)

BYprodriver 06-27-2012 11:35 AM

Evo's are capable of 4.5 second 0-60 in stock form with a good driver. It is difficult for a modified Boxster to acheive the same without Launch control.

Coffinhunter 06-27-2012 12:00 PM

But

it's an EVO:barf:......not to get all snobby, but the evo X is $40,000 before the mods and looks like this.....
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1340827123.jpg

Or I could spend a lot less and drive this....
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1340827170.jpg

Let me tell you where my money would be (and is) going. If it were only about speed, there are faster cars than an evo....

Agreed. Bang for buck? I'd have to go with 400hp for 10 grand = 2005+ GTO with LS2

http://image.highperformancepontiac....e+2005_gto.jpg

With the 6.0 Corvette LS2 there's TONS of performance mods available. Not that you really need them, with 0-60 in the mid 4s and a quarter time somewhere between 12.8 and 13.3, it's already very fast

shame it looks more like a grand am or grand prix than a performance hotrod, but then again the Evo X is no looker either, if you can get past the looks the GTO is a better bang for the buck. Evo screams boy racer = hat on sideways, pants saggin, scrawny white kid spending daddy's money, "FAS AN FURIOUS YO!"

bar10dah 07-09-2012 11:35 AM

Sure, fast. But, what an ugly car! Definitely doesn't do the 60's GTO moniker any justice.

Agreed, extremely ugly

that's probably why the new GTO were only out for 3 years.

First, no street racing

People say "porsches aren't good for straight lines", but the boxster is pretty decent at highway speeds, I've been incredibly surprised at what I've managed to keep up with.

here's a short list of the more interesting vehicles
--308hp V8 SL500 Mercedes
--New 300+ hp V6 Maxima
--New 300+ hp V6 Infiniti G37
--287hp V6 Nissan 350z
--2011+ Charger R/T... suppose to be 370hp V8 Hemi?? That was very interesting, because I thought it was a 292hp V6 the whole time, didn't know until I looked up what R/T had that it was a V8. Car was new, still had temp tags and the new car invoice on the side window, so unlikely it was a fake R/T. Maybe new driver didn't know how to press pedal? They only come with an automatic so can't blame bad shifting. Only thing I can think is they're heavy, 4,300 lbs, but still, shouldn't have been close.

i know, this list is unbelievable, i should have lost to all of them. I can't explain it

Update: I forgot to throw the Saturn Sky's and Pontiac Solstice's on here. I didn't add them because they were not "interesting", there was no challenge, even the turbo.... well, it said turbo on the back at least, I didn't hear any turbo whine though so it might have been a fake. Only reason I mention them is because they're also small two-seaters like our Boxsters and Car & Driver compares them to our Boxsters, but they're clearly not competition, even for my lowly 2.5

We have this beautiful twisty backroad here that is almost always vacant...the other day, a couple of crotch rockets(a ninja and something else...I'm not a bike guy) pulled up behind me while I was creeping at 20mph. They looked annoyed and were revving, so I let them eat exhaust! They tried to keep up and were nearly sideways in the curves, but had no chance. :D

After a mile or so, I pulled into a nice little parking spot and waited for them. They pulled up and we had a nice little chat. They couldn't believe that they got smoked by four wheels! That was fun! :)

My thoughts exactly.

I miss the power that my WRX gave me. And it was equally as fun in the corners.
I must say though, my 986 is magnitudes better as a panty dropper

The town I grew up in is being purchased cash by BWM driving Bosnians. Occasionally one will want to go off the line. The last time it happened I told him "google launch control and get back to me"....
