Smoking after autoX run
 

I have a 2000 boxster running a 3.4 911 engine.

Yesterday, as my dot legal slicks hot after a few runs, my times went down and lateral G's increased.

I pulled my car onto the grid to do another run, shut it off for a minute, and when I restarted, I had a lot of smoke. I pulled off of the paddock, held the engine at 2500 rpms for a few minutes, and the smoke disappeared. It did scare the hell out of me :eek:

Is there a modification I have to make to the AOS? I dont want this to happen anymore, what are you guys doing to prevent it?:cheers:

Turning the car off right after a hard run can cause smoke on the next start up. At high rpms, a lot of oil is pumped into the upper part of the motor and the scavenger pumps can't keep up. The oil doesn't have time to drain out of the top of the engine, causing the smoke on the next start.

Next time idle it for a few minutes after a run before you shut it down. This actually helps cool the car better than just shutting it down right away.

Sometimes a big smoke screen means an impending AOS failure (the internal bladder is starting to tear). No cause for concern, if the AOS is failing it will get progressively worse over the next 2-3 weeks and then you'll know for sure that was the problem.

To the best of my knowledge, there are no mods available for the AOS.
