Follow up - Amber Headlight Experiment
As some of you predicted the addition of a silver bulb to the front Halogen ( '03-04 ) Boxster headlights turn signal did nothing at all to change the look. If the bulb had been in front of rather than totally behind the amber filter it would have been another story. Sorry, but there it is and I now have two replacement bulbs for my rear turn signals. The only way to completely remove the amber from the Lit and '03/4 Halogens is the soldering iron method I am afraid. I will stick with these the way they are as I can live with the subued amber of these lights over the glaring amber of my original '02 headlmaps.

or you could throw the headlights into a 220 degree oven for 20 mins and open em up that way. probably easier to use the soldering iron for this particular endeavor though.

Wait a minute, I have a 2001 986 with amber headlights and have been looking for a cheap way to get the amber part off. So what are you guys talking about a soldering iron? I've got smoked lights everywhere else, can you fellas advise me? Thanks! :)

Don't do it. Just find a set of 03+ headlights. They show up on eBay all the time for $500 or less. You'll be really glad you did.

which is to get rid of amber by painting it silver to match the headlight housing.
i used metal/silver paint and it works good. and it cost about 3-4 bux. heres a pics to see what im talking about. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/228/500108821_b6cd3deeb8_o.jpg light still shows up fine, maybe a fraction of light lost, but that doesnt bother me. or you can possible colormatch that to your car... |
What's wrong with amber? It's not like it's rust or anything, and it doesn't slow you down.

With that said, amberless makes the car look at least 5 years newer. |
