Who else has dewinterized?

well i made it trough the winter with driving the box every single day on summer tires and no extra weight added anywhere on the car, and managed to install a intake and short shifter in between
i think that every boxster owner shold give a winter drive a try, car really likes the extra cold air if nothing else.

so far my impressions are as follows:
this year must have been the worst winter year in chicago ever, and aside from those hard snow days its been like driving the car in summer, roads clear up in matter of hours, and its like driving a car in rain (wet ground rather than snow), and i actually drove trough a snow storm on these ********************ty tires (sorry for the word choice, but its the most appropreate), and i will try and source some winter tires over the summer when they will be pretty much cheap.
so all in all, if you have all season or winter tires, its really not a big deal to drive at all, i would go to an extent to say that its actually fun to drive in winter
but today was a top down 54 degree weather in chicago and car sure loves not having any top on

Here are a few more important steps for those that winterized:

1) Turn back on your insurance- I turn mine off, except a few minor things that are still required. During the 5 months of storage, I think the coverage costed about $35.00

2) MNBoxster recommends to manually turn the engine over before starting the car by pushing the car in 5th gear (manny tranny). I have yet to do this. Has anyone done this yet? I still wonder if I can do this with just the wife...or do I need the whole neighborhood to help??

Unless you're a scrawny little college kid, you will be fine pushing it yourself. Just make sure you are not on a decline pushing against gravity.

The alternative is to let your big, burly wife do all the dirty work.

OK...I was able to move the car a few feet today!

I backed it out of the garage and applied a coat of Z2 and wiped down the wheel rims, just dust. It's been sitting in garage covered for several months itching to come out and play

I took my hardtop off a couple of weekends ago when I replaced the serpentine belt.

Yesterday I took the snow tires/wheels off when I put it up on stands so I can change the spark plugs, flush the brake fluid, and replace front and rear pads.

Might also install the new B&B exhaust that's been sitting in my basement unopened since 2003 (won it at the Tampa Parade).

I put the car in gear (5th or 6th) and was able to push it 3-4 feet back and then forward by myself without too much difficulty.

My issue is never with it being too cold with the top, or being able to handle the car in snow, etc. My issue is and always will be the salt. I've seen what it can do to cars that are washed even twice a week, and I don't like it at all. I also will not take my car to an automatic wash, and since the hoses get turned off during the winter, I cant properly wash her at home either. That salt will creep into all the little nooks and crannies and fester there ruining her in the years to come. It's not a big deal for me to put her away for the winter, knowing that.

I agree. The issure is salt in addition to all the other drivers. We have more snow forcasted next next weekend. Maybe in a couple of weeks.
