Front Aerokit Splitters for 987
Hey 987 owners, check this out:

bmuss,
I noticed you changed your sig. Did you add Sycamore Wood Trim this winter ? Nick |
Good eye, Nick! No, I've always had it. Ordered it that way from Porsche. I just added it to my sig recently because it is unique.
I was in Maui last week. :) |
Think we 986'ers could retro-fit it to our front bumper?

I'm buying that! Thanks
|
Really? Have fun scraping around! I don't really feel the aerokit trim adds much to the look of the 987.

It beats paying 1300 for the techart bumper! |
Huh. You lost me completely--how was that related to any of this? YOU TRY TO CONFUSE!! :)
|
Nvm. I thought it looked the same as the techart bumper for a similar effect, but the techart and speedart kits look much different (and better)
Speedart does sell a "chin spoiler" though which looks a lot like that http://www.speedart.de/en/program/aerodynamic/porsche_boxster_987/index.html Costs a lot more as well. |
So do you think you will still buy it. I actually like it too, adds a bit but is understated. Techart and Speedart are much more aggressive and wouldn't look right unless you got the sideskirts.
Let me know if you order it and how much it is for paint, install etc.. |
it does look a little different, but i think that it doesnt add enought to even bother getting. and they say its dramatic, hahah
Techart and Speedart really add to appearance of the car, the splitter itself it kinda whatever, but it does look nice in a way i guess. good luck, and do post pics if you do go trough and get it |
I think a lot of the overall appearance will depend on the color of your car. I have no basis for this statement, just a thought.
I would like to see it in person, installed. My only concern would be the front being lower than it already is, and scraping driveways and such. |
The Box is actually not that low compared to other cars. I can get over anything at low speeds.
|
It seems they're finally splitting up the Sport Design Aerokit, I would guess on account of disappointing sales for the whole package. Only the lipped spoiler interests me from the kit, so I think I'll wait for that.
I'm with Eslai, the 987 already has a front-clearance issue without exacerbating it. He and I also have PASM so we have 10mm less to work with. |

SD987, would you get PASM again? |
Bmuss, it wasn't a situation of me "getting" PASM, it was on the car that I wanted. For me to get a handle on the difference between PASM and PASM-less I'd have to spend a considerable amount of time in otherwise identically set up cars and experience conditions across the five programs that are superimposed over the "normal" and "sport" setting, that include:
* Lane change module * Vertical control module * Lateral acceleration module * Brake module * Load change module I haven't had that opportunity. However, for practical reasons I wouldn't recommend PASM to a prospective purchaser based on my Boxster experiences and wouldn't spec it on a car. Reasons I wouldn't include: 1. IMO there's better ways to spend $1990 on the Porsche options list. PASM in Sport mode makes the car feel more "buttoned down", but doesn't add $2K more button-down-edness. 2. I've done alot of Boxster reading and I've never seen documentation that quantifies a performance improvement from driving with PASM. I suspect PASMs impact is more psychological than physical for most. 3. Folks with 19 inch rims will recommend PASM "to improve ride quality", although I think one person said this and now others parrot the line. The 987 was optimized through design specifically for 19s by increasing the dynamic tire rolling circumference by 5% vs. the previous model and modifying the vehicle ratio spread (transmission, axle transmission, wheel/tires). Point being, the car is already setup for 19s without employing variable dampers. 4. As one of the few folks that have PASM without sport chrono I can tell you that the throttle mapping is slightly different with PASM in sports mode as a stand-alone application. I dont' much care for the adjustment, but that's just personal preference. 5. I've read about Eslai's PASM shock replacement and at least one case of "PASM Failure" in the OBC. There's also a lengthy debate on Rennteam about PASM not working correctly on a member's car (although in that instance I suspect it's user error, not the car). In summation, I don't think the car or my wallet really benefit from the unnecessary introduction of new things that can fail on a Porsche. 6. Clearance as described below, for street driving, the car could benefit from 10mm more clearance, not less. |
Thank you, SD987. Very thorough, as always!
|
i think I've come to grips with my opinion on PASM. I probably wouldn't order it again, but I need to test a non-PASM car again before I truly agree to that conclusion. The PASM-soft mode is not agressive enough so if the standard suspension is a good balance between the soft and hard modes (hard is pretty rough) then I could save some money, were I to order again in the future.
*I* unfortunately don't see an F430 in my sights any time soon. :( |
