Its not so much that I am trying to be a wise *** but every time I sincerely ask for input I get some know it all with a smart response or worse yet, some know it all that won't take others suggestions into consideration. It gets quite tiresome.....I thought this was a forum where we all could get together and offer insight and help eachother out.....just my 2 cents even though it may not be worth much.

The battery used by Porsche is Moll. http://www.moll-batterien.de/ Porsche does not make batteries.

I do not know of an aftermarket source in the US for this brand. For a while Porsche was using Douglas batteries for warranty replacements. Douglas is a US company but their batteries could be made in Mexico for all I know. Porsche switched back to Moll a few years ago. Guess Moll was the lowest bidder.

I have been doing this Boxstering stuff since 1999. Been to a lot of dealerships and independent shops. I see the defective Moll batteries stacked outside on pallets. I would not buy an overpriced Moll battery when there are better alternatives out there. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2950

If you have money to burn give some of it to me and I will put in you Box a better battery at a fraction of what the dealer will charge you. There is nothing special about about a 12 volt lead acid automotive battery called Moll.

I think the factory battery is 50 pounds.
There's also Optima and Odyssey lightweigh batteries (sealed battery, no leaks).
If you have to replace, go for an upgrade I always say.

Porsche has used 60, 70, and 80 amp hour batteries depending on the vehicle and equipment. Physically they are different sizes, so the weight varies.

Most common that I have seen is the 70 amp hour. But you know, if you have navigation or the cold start option you get a bigger battery, or at least you are supposed to. The Moll 80 amp hour is much larger than a 60 amp hour because 80 amp hour has a greater capacity.

I'm still looking for my picture of the Molls stacked outside by dealership on a pallet. For the time being here is a 70 and 80 on the shop floor before they are dumped outside. I am not going over to the dealership with a scale. They already think I'm crazy....

Found it. This picture is 4 years old. The size of the stack changed over time. Then they got rid of the shopping carts and put them on a pallet. I do not have a picture of the stack on the pallet as I saw that after the pic.

Then they are hauled away and the stack repeats itself.
