you car's paint is very durable, dragging fabric across it will cause more trouble than help. I learned this lesson with my old black car that I dusted off and covered almost every day at one point until I saw the issues with daily contact with paint.
Proper paint care before parking it out in the elements will keep your paint shiny for a decade. My car is going on 7 years and people think its a year or two old.
