When is the best time to replace the clutch?
When is the best time to replace the clutch? I haven't had any problems with it yet. But I was wondering how long will it last. I just use it as a daily driver with allot of stop and go and a little bit of freeway milage. Car currently has 52,000 miles on it. Should I replace it with the stock clutch or go with a performance aftermarket one? What about my flywheel? Anyone have any sugestions when to change it too? Just curious.

You don't need to replace unless it is worn. i.e. you can't get it into gear or the gears "slip." I have 140, 000 miles on my chevy SUV with original clutch. Wear has much to do with driving style rather than total mileage.

Ideally if you have a RMS issue you should put in a new clutch kit then because the tranny is already dropped. If the clutch still feels strong and it doesn't slip then there really isn't anything to worry about.

Ive heard a lot about replaceing your flywheel with a light weight one while your getting the job done. For one it shouldnt cost you any labor because they are already in there, and 2, people have said their flywheels have been scored up.

A clutch will ultimately fail. Therefore, once it fails is a good time to replace it. If you need to have the transmission out for any reason, it would be a good time to inspect the clutch and replace if signs of wear are high. New clutch parts are likely $400-600. Labor is the another $500-$1k?. Not a cheap job whether its needed or not.
