Looking for Porsche mechanic in Charleston, SC
Just moving from South-East Georgia to Charleston, South Carolina. Purchased a 2002 Boxster S in December. Want/need to get 60,000 mile service done. Closest dealership (Hilton Head) wants $1800. Anyone know of a good shop/mechanic in the Charleston area?

Good shop in Lewisville, TX
I have had my Boxster in at Fifth Gear Motorsports in Lewisville two times now. They do great great work and are located at:
1425 FM 407 (Justin Rd.) Suite 950 - Lewisville, TX 75067 972-317-4005 The first time I had my car in was for the top. The dealer had told me I needed a new top assembly and that mine couldn't be fixed. They quoted me about $4,500 to do it. I bought a used top assembly and took it to Fifth Gear. They called me later and told me that I didn't need a new top, that a bolt had come loose and needed to be put back on. They realigned the top and charged me $400 for taking it loose and doing the work. The second time I had them put in a clutch, which cost right at $1100. Not bad, and certainly cheaper than the Stealership. Robert |

I had my clutch just done and these guys were quick and reasonable. The dealer wanted $1700 and they did it $1200 including the main seal. Just ask for Angel and tell him Angelo sent ya. The shop is in Oviedo, FL just north of UCF.

For the Charlotte/Concord, NC area...
Kim Henson, owner of German Imports, does great work on Porsches, even owns a Boxster himself. Good guy, prices far below the dealerships, and doesn't charge you for what you don't need. German Imports 6385 Irish Potato Rd Kannapolis, NC 28083 (704) 938-5011 |
Updated the forum list.

In the San Jose area.
RennShop. 1423 Laurelwood Road. Santa Clara. 408-727-0911. http://www.therennshop.com/ This is owned by Marvin Weitz and opened in October. Marvin work at the Stevens Creek and Claridges dealership before opening his own shop. Since I know some of the dealership mechanics I checked out Marvin and he checked out. Marvin knows the Porsche people I know. He had a special for a clutch replacement for $800 for my 1997. Dealer wanted $1,800 and an independent shop $1,400. While the transmission was out for the clutch replacement I also paid extra for the latest engine reseal, oil separator replacement, and fuel filter replacement. My clutch feels like it did 9 years ago when I bought the car. I have been by his shop a few times to say hi, and Marivn was at the Parts Heaven Swap meet. Tell him Jeff Lopez sent you. |

I CAN recommend: Fischer Motorsports 22221 N. HILLVIEW DRIVE LAKE BARRINGTON, IL 60010 847.304.8822 I've been very happy with them. Not only are their charges reasonable, but the shop is clean, and they (especially Rick) are professional and friendly. They come highly recommended from the same PCA friend, but I am happy to be using them. |
Near Indy
Anybody know of a good one near Indianapolis, Indiana?
|
anything in the Austin/San Antonio,Texas area?
would be cool if someone cool "summarize" all the posts and keep it updated on the first post, instead of having to wade through all the posts to find your specific area. just an idea. |
Indy = Eurosport
Austin = MooreSpeed out near the airport :) You cant hide from me :) B |
ToolPants :)
Careful with quoting prices. I'm 100% sure that your price did not include a new flywheel. I know what he is paying for the parts and he can eat the labor. IF you had needed a new flywheel, they are nearly $800 by themselves (and more and more of them are not reusable) Just don't want people to expect one thing, and then learn different once he gets the car apart. He really has no way of telling you if it will need a flywheel or not until he gets it apart (if it doesn't show up broken on the test drive) B |
Brad! I feel like i got caught cheating lol
