Miata gell battery vs Optima
I was wondering if anyone had installed the Miata gell battery in a 986, I have one in my 911 but it requires less of an electrical load. I need to replace my battery and was wondering if it would be a good choice as they are small and light.

I don't have any experience with the Miata but there were several thoughts on the Optima in this thread.

For what it's worth, I haven't heard a single bad comment about Optima batteries. This goes back to my boat owning days where Optima was also seen as the best out there.

The advantage of a gell cell is that it is half the size and weight and doesnt have any issues with storage, I have had one in my 911 for three years and it only gets driven every couple of months, I was wondering if it would handle the load of the 986? Maybe no one has tried one yet?
The specs: Voltage 12 Amp Hour 31 CCA* 475 Length 7 1/2" Width 5" Height 7" Weight 25lbs |
Just out of curiosity, where would you purchase a Miata gellcell battery? I'd like to find something small that will work in my 911, too.

I like that smuggler's box setup. Might have to do something like that, since Stinky's box was stuffed with AC junk that is now long gone. Then there's the big hole cut through to the passenger footwell.... Might have to weld a plate in there sometime.
Thanks for the link. |
