Powerchip
Did anyone here get the powerchip for their car? Anyone in SoCal? Is it even legal here in California?

Chip Appointment Tomorrow
I actually have an appointment tomorrow at 10:00 am, will follow with a post on the entire process.
Have a good drive back after the programming is complete to Rancho Cucamonga. Looking forward to see how the change feels. 987 2006 Lapis Blue |

So, how was it? Did you feel the difference? I'm still debating if I should get it since I have a tiptronic. What do you think? And, I don't plan to change my intake or exhaust. So do you think it would be worth it for me? |
Is it legal, not sure at all...?
I will see what happens when it goes for a smog check. Do I feel it, sure do more than ever during shift points, much easier to rev up and don't feel the engine strain. Call them and see what Matt or Travis would recommend. When I spoke with Matt at the location he gave me a good description of what the difference should be, he did not overstate or make it seem that once done it would be turbo fast or anything like that. My opinion for the money it's worth it... This forum has given me many ideas of small and large mods to think about. |
The Boxster is not a vehicle that responds very well to ecu tuning.
If you want good results, you will need to remove air restrictions and then use the ecu tuning to take advantage of those. That's what many here have said and my own friends who are car experts. |

What's the difference between Powerchip and GIAC ?
Thanks, Nick |
NickCats not exactly sure but here is what some of my research has mentioned.
I think they all re-map F/A mixture, rev points, limiters and also help maximize the gains that can be achieved with other mod’s being utilized. Form other forums including this one it seems that GIAC is also popular. Many to choose to from so good luck.... |
How is this chip different from the Jet Performance Chip. They do the exact same thing. Re-map everything. Jet is allot cheaper.

Thanks for the info, CALI...
Here is what I can gather : GIAC Claim 10-15 hp gain ( 1997 - 1999 Boxster 2.5 ) For optimum power gains the software must be coupled with an Evolution Motorsports cold air intake. $795 ( Imagine Auto ) Powerchip Claim 14-18 hp gain ( 1997 - 1999 Boxster 2.5 ) $690 Jet Performance Chip Only Available for 2000 MY No mention of HP gains on web site for Boxster $400 Nick |

Question: Does jet performance offer any ECU tuning for the Porsche Boxster 986 year models 97-2004? My fellow Bosxter owners are very interested. ECU 65002: We do have an ECU upgrade available for your application. Since your ECU does not have an easily replaceable chip we do require that the ECU be sent to us for programming. Our ECU upgrade kit contains everything needed to pack and ship the ECU to us and includes complete instructions, ECU location chart and our programming specification sheet that you fill out so we know what upgrades have been done to the vehicle. Next day air return shipping is also included in the price. The part # to fit your vehicle is 65002, which retails for $399.00. The kit is available through JET directly or through any of our dealers. Once we receive your ECU it will be programmed according to the vehicle specification sheet to optimize the fuel and timing curves for your specific modifications. For best results the ECU upgrade should be done after you complete all of your other upgrades so we can program specifically for them. We also recommend using at least 89 octane fuel due to the modified ignition advance. Horsepower gains will vary depending on how the vehicle is modified, but average gains are 12-15 horsepower to the drive wheels. If you have any questions you can reach our tech department toll free at 800-535-1161. Our hours are M-F, 8-5 PST. |
