Your Favorite Detail of the Boxster

I'm talking about PHYSICAL APPEARANCE only!

I'm not talking about performance aspects of the little go carts!

My favorite part of the boxster is the part that I didn't expect: the delightfully stylish interior.

My experience with German cars and older Porsches in particular, seemed to be that the interiors were plain, and rigid appearing, and just not inviting.

Not so the Boxster. When I first looked in one, I was amazed to see the beautiful curves on the door panels, esp the arch of the door handle sweeping up to the door handle. I thought I was looking at an Italian car! Likewise the dash was an unexpected treat. I especially like the clear view over the instruments and below the cowling. It kinda makes me wish I was a 4 foot 8 inch tall little granny so I could look thru the steering wheel and through the dashboard!

Even the stitching is lovely.

Oh, and speaking of the steering wheel, lovely, lovely, lovely. Pretty triangular center that vaguely reminds me of a bikini bottom (well, it does!), and the nice thumb contours at 3 and 9.

Just lovely.

Now, I do love a lot of the exterior features, esp the low nose seen in profile and the curve around the tail lights, but that interior just blew me away!

Oh, and the script on the instruments and door sills, how un-German!

And YOUR favorite part??? :)

I'll play along.

One detail I noticed on my '00 is the guages. The curved arcs that seperate the analog part from the digital part, all come together in nice curves, from one guage to the next.. sweeping along if you will. Kind of like a sideways number 8. I don't think the later cars do this because of additional space needed for more "digital" readouts.

Also, I love the curve of the rear fenderline. I prefer the same rear 3/4 view of a 1969-1989 911 more, but the Boxster is growing on me :)

I love the front end of the car. Also the curves on the Instrumental Cluster. However I am not a big fan of the rear of the Boxster. Something about the rear ends of porsche just don't do it for me.

good 'q'

1- that thing stuck to the front trunk toward the front
2- that noise i get after turning ignition
3- the movie i watch when i mash that right pedal while i'm in the 7th gear

djomlas 02-15-2007 07:11 PM

placement of ingnition, factt hat we have 2 trunks, side vents are bad ass, CENTER EXHAUST IS THE BOMB as well as retractable spoiler, and the fact that im leaning against the engine, and who can forget the look of a box w hardtop

we just love them

SD987 02-15-2007 07:23 PM

The cupholders on the 987 !

bmussatti 02-15-2007 07:33 PM

Fun question!

I agree with a lot that has been said (except SD987's :) )

I love how the convertible tops folds neatly into the back, and looks very "finished" when the top is down. The whole "lowering the top" process is pretty cool to watch. I think when people see it, they are kinda amazed.

Another amazing feature of the Boxster was the 60 page ordering guide. You can really customize the car to be exactly how you want it.

The timeless curves.

For me, something about the back of the car just does it. Of all the pics I have of my cars, the rear 3/4 view is my favorite. I guess it's the silhouette.

Also, I just realized I'm always very impressed when I look at my brakes. They're freaking huge, cross-drilled from the factory, and capped with red calipers. Spectacular!

Just an admirer at this point but hope to be an owner in the next few weeks.

I've looked at hundreds of photos (Ebay) and many in person. So far, my favorite features are:

Gauge Cluster - great design, love the font for the numerals, especially love the black face - almost enough to pass on an S model!

Rear - especially 2002 and older - I love the smooth curves
Front - same comments - I think the 2002s and older look the best - smooth curves.

Red brake calipers on S models.

For me it's definitely the rear view. It's hard to approach the car from behind and not see 50 years of proud heritage...

The boxster's shape is just damn sexy. Smooth lines everywhere. I'm sure Chris Bangle hates it.

For me, it's the profile when the top is down. I don't say this in a bad way - it looks like the top is an afterthought - like the car is MEANT to exist without the top on it.

LOL!!! Nice. Funny you should say that; Mr. Bangle is why I'm joined the family. When it came time to replace my last 3-series, he had bangled up the whole product line, so I came to Porsche.

Anyway, my favorite aesthetic feature is that while most convertibles (even the 911) look like a coupe that happens to be missing its roof, the Boxster looks like (and is) a purpose-built roadster. In fact, I think it sacrifices top-up looks to that end, and I'm OK with that.

There will be many a "man card" turned in after this thread... ;)

I fell in love with the elegant and sexy curves of the body. It's the successful medium between a Lamborghini with all of its sharp edges and the Jaguars of past with all the curves. It's a balance of sex appeal and graceful style.

Now quick, everyone do something MANLY!!! :p

I love the look of the front end. Even at a slight glance you know you're looking at a Porsche.

I love the interior. It feels like I'm in a airplane cockpit. The triangle steering wheel is very cool, too. I like Uro's comparison of the shape... and I agree.

I love the way the engine sounds when I first turn the key.

I love the fact that the windows go all the way up automatically when you put the top back up.

I love the sound of the engine as it gets through 3500rpm to 4k and up.

I love my green paint. :D

I couldn't said it better myself -- definitely the rear. Ever since I was a kid, I was in love with the 550 spider:

ricklin 02-16-2007 09:11 AM

Rear view does it for me too! If the road is twisty that is the view that most others get of the car!

There is a Porscheness to that rear view. I also loved the look of my 928 S4 from the rear.

Guess I'm just an ass man.

pecivil 02-16-2007 09:18 AM

the rear 3/4 view with the top down is simply beautiful. Gorgeous. It has great Porsche lineage. It is the rebirth of the 914-6 ideation....mid engined, light, quick, balanced, Porsche all the way.
