Advice On Code Readers
I have been thinking about looking into one of these. Anyone want to share your opinions on which one you have, what is the cost and where you found it?
Is it affordable or possible to have one that would work with multiple cars? I have a '99 328 that it would be nice to use the same for both. |
I've got a Durametric scan tool that interfaces with my laptop. It's more expensive than the cheap scanners you can get on that auction site, but it does much more than most other scanners. Check out http://www.durametric.com for info.
Sorry, but it won't work on your 328. Also, if you end up getting a Durametric and you're willing to help out someone with a check engine light, airbag light, etc., please add your name to the "Global Durametric/PST2 list" in the Technical forums on this site. |
SC986,
I have a rather inexpensive code reader purchased from Autozone. It's an Actron model 135 or 145, I believe. I think it was around $100 and works on 1996 and newer cars. Unfortunately I needed it quite a few times for the Box in the past. Everything has been great for some time now since replacing all 4 O2 sensors and the MAF.... Let me know if you need to read any codes before getting a reader. ddb |
I bought the Actron CP9125 OBD II PocketScan Code Reader for $40 off eBay.
No bells & whistles but does the job (just saved me a bunch of money as I could diagnose a faulty MAF sensor myself and didn't have to pay Porsche $150 for this). |
