Steering wheel question

I have a four spoke steering wheel and want to replace it with another newer four spoke wheel. The reason why is the previous owner must have made love to the steering or something cause the leather is faded and terrible looking. The question I have is can i remove airbag from the old stering wheel a transplant it into the new one.. if so anyone have the steps to doing this project and is there any tips i should know. The steering wheel is non tip that i am buying and my car is 5-spd.. Any help would be great

Sorry for a slight highjack, but since we're talking about steering wheels...

I have a three spoke in my 2001 Boxster... and it has a silver crest. Is there some significance to having a silver crest on the wheel instead of a gold one?

(1) You can reuse your air bag with the replacement 4 spoker.

(2) The silver crest was only for model year 2000 S. Millenium. The 2000 996 also got a silver crest if I remember right. I have a 2000 S 3 spoke on my 1997 that came with a 4 spoke.

Fray,

I don't know if some cars came standard with a silver crest or if it was only an option. As far as I'm concerned, it just personal preference. I just finished installing my silver crest airbag 15 minutes ago. I will post pics in the Show & Tell Forum later this evening. BTW, I have a like-new, grey, gold-crested 3-spoke airbag for sale if any forum member is interested. If not, I will list it on ebay.

you CANT use the airbag off a 4spoke to put in a 3 spoke, but u sure can move it to another 4 spoke if u find one that wasnt made love to hehehe

Try this link. I think Tool Pants had another one. But you can search for it.

Hi,

PM me and I'll send you step-by-step. You'll need a T-30 Torx w/ extension or anout 2.5" long + a Phillips Head, + 24mm Socket. Be sure to disconnect the Battery for at least 5 min. as the Airbag circuits stay active and you don't want to deploy it by accident - spendy and dangerous. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

PS Btw, I have a pristine 4-spoke w/ airbag if anyone's interested.
