Cup holder stuck

Okay, I really don't know how to start this except to say that I should have known better. Anyway, my factory cupholder was sticky. I forced it closed...in the "in" position. Now I can't get it out. How do I take this portion of the dash apart to fix the cup holder?

Thanks in advance.

Cupholder stuck in

My 2002 just got afflicted as well. One cupholder fine - the other stuck in the "in" position. it is physically more "in" than the normal one. Help? Any tricks? Like: "Just put a butter knife right here" ... anything? I cant see paying a dealer to mess with it! :ah:

Thought about removing the cup-holder? Might allow you to fix the problem. Just a thought.

Would love to remove. How? Saw another thread saying just pull out the horseshoe. And the cupholder comes out. Huh? Don't see an easily removable trim piece on 2002. Help?

OK Success of sorts. I could not remove the trim around the cup holder, vents and all (some posts say - remove this horseshoe-shaped trim piece and the rest is easy). but I pushed a plastic spatula in under the stuck cup holder and it popped out right away. The spring on this one now seems weak and it will probably stick again, but at least I have a way to pop it out. Now, where do I keep the spatula?
