Forum Changes...

Hello all. In a bid to make things a bit more streamlined, faster and smoother around here, I have made the following changes to the site:

- Removed the ads from the left hand side, and made the menu now a pulldown. I'm not sure how many people actually were using this menu. I didn't want to remove it completely, but it made limited sense to have it on the screen at all times, taking up valuable screen real estate. I understand that some of you probably use it all the time, that is why I implemented it now as a rollover pulldown. I tested this with Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, and Google Chrome, so we should be good-to-go.

- Added Spell Check Feature

- Added control-enter to submit feature

- Buttons are a new color, much easier to find on the page

Thanks, let me know your feedback if you have any...

Wayne

I've been bumped off while entering thread replies.

Having Sig Photo's would be nice again

Can you get rid of the one search every 30 seconds thing, it is annoying when you are trying to find something and you misspell a word or change a search term to get better results.

Thanks you!

YES! I changed it from 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

As for signatures in pics, I'm going to leave that off for now. I've discovered that it makes threads very difficult to read sometimes if there are all of these pictures in the flow.

Yes, we have a dedicated search server, so I just changed this from 30 seconds down to 10.

Thanks! I have an iPad too, and I've been thinking that it didn't look very good on it before. A few more changes over the next few weeks, and it will be in tip-top shape!

Thanks for everyone's continued support!

Wayne,

Any chance the original "roll-up" page could come back? It was a great tool for forum members to use to see ALL the latest Thread activities on all the different boards. I know I would never miss a subject or comment and I could pop in and out in seconds. Now, I have to open each board to see if anything new has been posted.

I believe the old one had the latest 20-25 Threads that had activity. It's the one thing I miss the most. Love what you've done to make the sharing of information easier for all.

That was a piece of 8-year old software that was also causing the board to slow down. I got rid of it because that functionality is on every page, when you hit the "New Posts" link at the top of the page. This link should show you all the new posts since you last logged in.

I miss seeing everyone's 'sig' avatar. Seeing what posters drive was a nice feature.

Cool, thanks Wayne. That feature works great, one click and all the threads I missed in all the different bulletin boards are right there...nice.

I'm going to add the "DTO Garage" plug-in that will allow you to store pics in your garage. Much cleaner solution...

I like most of the changes (and can adapt to most of the ones I don't), but I gotta go along with this sentiment...

The signature pics, for those who had them, is how I quickly identified posters when flipping down through a thread...it was who they were. I, for one, never found that it "makes the threads very difficult to read." In fact, if I was reviewing a thread, looking for a specific post by someone who had such a pic, that was how I quickly found it. The pic links below their signature? Might as well eliminate them as well...I'll never use them.

The posts all look the same now, no character, uniform, monotonous. I liked it better before. But maybe that's just me.

I much prefer the forum w/o signature pictures. Avatar pix are fine b/c they are typically size restricted and/or off to the side but sig pictures get too cluttered looking.

If the interface allows, why not let people use them as long as users can choose to either see or not see them when viewing the forum?
