Does freezing water hurt the paint?

So its about 3 degrees here with a -12 windchill. My truck (Touareg) is covered in salt, almost looks white instead of black. On my way home from work I wanted to ge t it washed but most of the touch free car washes and larger washes are closed because of the temp. So I pulled in a manual wash and sprayed it down to get the salt off. I had no towel on me, so I just drove home. My Touareg is now in a cocoon of ice.

Is this bad? Is it bad to actually have water turn to ice while on your paint?

This is my car under about an inch of ice:

It didn't hit the car as ice, but it froze anyway. The paint did not suffer any ill effects.

LOL, nice pic. Glad to hear no ill effects. My truck is currently melting in the garage. I feel like I'm going to go out to check on it and the whole car will melt and go down the drain.

I had the same thing happen to my car as FrayAdjacent did. Its ok but the one time the whole sheat of ice on the hood slid off when I parked it in my garage, and I think the dust and such under it left some fine lines down my hood and bumper

I can attest to that. Very fine lines, especially on a black car... :(

ehh, its nothing to be worried about

only if it's painted with water colors.

paint will stand up to almost anything, a little/a lot of ice won't effect it at all. The salt would have more of an effect on things than ice.
