Oil Change...
Its been 1 year since my last oil change and the car has had about 4k miles put on it since. How important is it that I get it changed asap? The last change was exactly January 27, 2006, which was done as part of the 45k service. I've just been too busy to take in but I have a few long drives this coming weekend that I plan on taking the Boxster on (200-300miles). Should I try and get it done before then or is it ok to just do it sometime next week?
Thanks |
Porsche recommends changing the oil every 2 years or 15k,whatever comes first. You will be cool man, enjoy your weekend!

Hi,
I would never go by the Porsche recommendations for Oil Changes, these apply to ideal conditions, which no one actually encounters. The accumulated gunk needs to be flushed from the engine annually. And the Oil needs to be replaced before 10k mi. These engines have the potential for too many problems without the condition of the Oil contributing to them. Aside from Spark Plugs, changing the Oil is the cheapest engine maintenance you can do on these cars. That said, given the description you gave, you should be fine stretching it a little longer, you won't grenade the engine. But, be sure to make the change within the next couple months on the outside. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
TriGem2K,
There is a great article about oil (changing frequency, type, molecular structure, etc.) in the recent technical section of Excellence magazine. |
damn man, how do u put so little miles on the car in a year?
off topic but, when i got my first car, i had it for 1 year and 3 months, i put 32k miles on it  to this day i have no idea how i did it, but i drove that thing day and night hehehe |

TriGem, you should change the oil. Not a greater feeling than running fresh lube. You spent like 1 billion dollars on your stereo, but you won't spend a few bucks for clean grease. Come on man! :)
|
i seriously dont know man, u shoulda seen the face on the guy that was buying it off of me, when he saw the title when i got it and miles after i was selling it lol.
also, i think it was maybe couse the gas was like 9395894385 times cheaper than today. |
The first few years I racked on miles like no tomorrow. Its a 2001 with 49,900miles. I got through the break in period the day after I picked up the car and it only had 3miles leaving the Dealer.
At this point I've got 3-4cars at home to choose from as my daily driver. As much as I love the Boxster its just not a daily driver. At least not mine, its too low, it actually scrapes going in and out of the driveway. Makes parking it a pain in the @$$ Oh and when I drive it, believe me its not being driven lightly. It sees 5K plus every time. I drive the @#$% out of it. |

I second that. Hahaha |
I would change it it will be the same price as the gas to go on your 400km trip. I put 21000km on my car in 4 months ive owned it going to school. I change my oil ever 3000miles. the oil is what keeps the engine going. the car has 150000km on it and i always seem to notice it run smother when i get a oil change.
