Wow, holy resurrection Batman!
I saw the MNBoxster reference and thought "is he back online?" 15 yrs might be a record. |
I found that adding the 987 rear deck speakers/sub and upgrading the dash speakers made a huge difference. I think that at this point every factory dash speaker has disintegrated... you just don't realize it until you take them out because the tweeter is still working.

There is a guy in the UK that makes the dash speaker upgrade super mega easy. I went as big as I could with the driver so I had to cut the end of bolt off on the right side to fit the magnet. You'll see what I mean when you remove the right speaker.

986 factory Bose here….
….I replaced the dash speakers with some 4 inch two-way jobs that were highlighted in this forum five years ago and the total package is really pretty darn good now.
I looked up those speakers about a year ago when another forum-ite asked about upgrading his Bose system and they appear to be out of production. The adapter mentioned above for aftermarket dash speakers is an easy plug and play way to really improve the Bose system. Just upgrading the dash speakers makes a huge difference. The door speakers in the Bose system are just a mid-bass driver. The rear “tweeters” in the sun box just add enough spacial fill to make a good solid sound stage with the top down. If you have a factory Bose system, try the cheap route first-buy the dash speaker adapters and jut replace your dash speakers and see how you like that, before jumping in whole hog. Good luck. |
I make similar adapter. They just make the install easier but aren't Bose specific. The dash speakers are 4 ohm but the door & rear speakers are 2 ohm. You an technically hook up speakers that are any ohm, they just wont sound correct or last and if you push them, they will blow. It's standard Ohm's law.
