Has the car been repainted?

dcporsche99 02-03-2007 05:31 PM

Hey dj,

Sorry about what happened there. It's painful to even look at. :(

Also, I'm not sure how and with what you wash your car, but that could be directly related since the cold temperatures you are experiencing are pretty ridiculous.

Unfortunately, I, honestly, don't have a solution for your current issue...but, I'm just worried that your other stripe might end up doing the same thing. Isn't that mod a winter mod? I don't know if the vinyl stripe has a curing time or a temperature requirement....

Maybe one of the other folks out there who have had this mod done can provide some assistance.

I'm so sorry :(

djomlas 02-03-2007 06:19 PM

well i was doing it in my garage, it was at about 70 degrees in there all day, so i dont think it was that at all...
and i used hairdryer to put it on and take it off, the other one was fine, only one seide peeled off.
u really dont notice it unless u look for it, but still

dcporsche99 02-03-2007 06:29 PM

Wow, in your garage it's 70 degrees F???...are you using a portable heater? OR is your garage suited up like some of the other guys out there??

I can tell you mine is likened to an ice bucket...burrrrr...freakin' cold!

Well, let us know how it goes!

djomlas 02-03-2007 06:59 PM

yea i got some hardcore industrial heater, it warms up my garage from 0 to about 80 degrees in literly 2 minutes :)
my dads friends company went bankrups and i got it for free, but he said its big money.
its really bad ass, it defrosted my car today in minutes :)

Well, your only option is to put a new sticker on, or else you will have the only boxster with clear coat peeling. Ive never seen one, these cars are loved and cherised so you dont see them in the same shape as an astrovan.

djomlas 02-03-2007 07:31 PM

well the car has been taken care of, and i babied it too, but i jsut dont understand this.

if you only knew me, well people that do, i take care of my car better than i take care of myself lol

dcporsche99 02-03-2007 07:45 PM

Glad to hear she's as good as new! Whew....what a relief!

So I cant tell, was this Clear Coat Delamination that pulled away when the decal was removed or was it just residue from the decal?

Nick-NY 02-04-2007 05:30 AM

Ouch! very sorry to hear/see your situation.
it's hard to tell from the picture, but is it the clear or a layer of paint coming off?

djomlas 02-04-2007 10:19 AM

its not the paint peeling, its a little piece of clearcoat that came off with the sticker/decal.

ive put numerous decals and vinyl and stripes on a camaro including hood, bumper, roof, spoiler, on numerous cars, but something like this never happened to me, and outta all cars a porsche. o well...i put new ones on there anyways now like planned, il be taking some pictures todday and post them up

Porsche paint is known to be more fragile than most. That's why road nicks are such a big issue for P-cars. I had a bit of bird**************** that was on my paint all day in October, and by the time I rinsed it off, it had left a little pit.

Sorry to hear about that. You are going to need that repainted and clear coated if you want it right.

bmussatti 02-05-2007 04:54 AM

DJ, you have a great looking car! I just don't like the spears. Sorry. :)
