Does this look wrong?

I may be in the market for a boxster, found this one locally, This particlular dealer usually marks stuff up pretty high, and i dont think they would sell a salvage car or anything like that, but this price seems low. any ideas?

Last year I found a 2003 Boxster S with similar miles for a similar price. I decided to pass for multiple reasons. Since we are a year later, the price seems relatively decent to me. But make sure you look at the car...you cant see all the scratches and dings from pics.

I'm not 100% sure, but I was of the impression that most, if not all Boster "S" had red calipers. The car in the picture doesn"t ???

CJ_Boxster 02-02-2007 01:40 PM

I noticed that also, I think it might not be an S

It is the middle of winter, the dealer is in the snow belt, and dealers have to entice people with low prices in order to move convertibles during this time of year. It's a Porsche dealership that has the car, see if it is Porsche Certified.

Great catch there guys, its not a 6speed either.

That price seems more like what id expect

Thanks

Those are custom painted in silver,no Boxster comes with silver calipers from the factory. It's more then likely a S,look at the 3rd radiator grille,6 speed shift knob and the tailpipe.

Although carfax shows it as an S...now im confused...maybe they put up the wrong pics or VIN?

The shift knob shows it is a 6-speed. If it were a 5-speed there wouldn't be the extra branch off the left side for R.

Very odd indeed, pricewise. The mileage is a bit high for the year, but not to lower the price that much.

An 'S'?

When I was looking thru all of the ads etc. before purchase, once in awhile you would see the designation for an 'S' but on deeper inspection you would find they refered to the Tip 'S' transmission. However this is not a tip so that wouldn't hold. Also look out for the 'S' when they refer to the Sport Package. I don't know if they mean to mislead but after all they are car dealers. The lack of red calipers and I didn't notice if the rotors were drilled but that is another tip off along with the center opening in the front bumper for the extra cooler. You will learn a lot in your search and have fun in the process. Make sure the ad says 3.2 engine.

This IS an S. The shifter has a position in the top left (like an upside down 'h').

An easier way to tell if it's an S or not is by looking at the 5th digit in the VIN.

A = non-S
B = S

MNBoxster 02-03-2007 06:07 AM

Hi,

As mentioned, it is an S. The calipers are just painted silver. Non-S calipers are black, it's definitely an S. It has the 3rd radiator, twin exhaust tips and a 6-speed tranny, 3-spoke steering wheel and silver gauge faces...

It's an S.. the calipers look like that because of waaaay too much use of those chemical wheel cleaners.. i've seen it a lot down here in florida.

The 2004 Anniversary Edition came with silver calipers, but that car is not an anniversary edition. Does look like an S, though.

Well, just went to look at it and as i walked in the guy buying it shook hands and sealed the deal..ohh well
